Welcome to Albany Primary School

school

All pupils should enjoy school life. It is our intention to create a very happy 'family school' where there is a sense of purpose and well-being, a place where children and adults are glad to be. Good behaviour is looked for, acknowledged and rewarded. Our intention is to develop a positive attitude to learning by consistently focusing on the child's strengths and achievements.

It is open to boys and girls and we take part in a number of boys, girls and mixed matches against local schools. The A-team play in the Cardiff Schools League throughout the school year. We also enter the annual New Directions Football tournaments for both boys and girls. In 2006 our girls team reached the final losing on apenalty shootout. The emphasis is on enjoyment and participation and all children that attend will have the opportunity to represent the school throughout the year.

We have recently had a great offer of sponsorship from COFFEE #1 on Albany Road which we are extremely grateful for. Click here to see the kit we are so proud to wear.

Cricket Club

After school Cricket club runs on a Tuesday from 3.30-4.15 in the Summer term. It is open to all year 5 and 6 pupils and is always popular. We try to play friendly matches against local schools to gain match experience and finish the year attending the Cardiff and Vale School tournaments at Sophia Gardens. There are separate girls and boys tournaments so at least 20 of the children attending have the opportunity to enter the tournament each year.

chess

Chess Club

Chess club is open to all children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 takes place on a Wednesday lunchtime. During the Spring term the children play freely and are given the chance to learn from beginner stages. The summer term introduces competition play in which the children play designated league fixtures each week. Children are under no pressure to participate in the league and can play freely if they wish. Every February we enter a number of children into the Cardiff and the Vale Schools chess Championships. This is a fantastic opportunity to compete against children of all abilities from other schools.
sub

Subbuteo Club

This is a very new club to Albany. The game Subbuteo is no longer available in shops but due to incredible popularity amongst the children who were given the opportunity to play in school we have purchased enough equipment to have five Subbuteo tables. Interested year 6 children will soon be taught the rules and participate in regular Subbuteo league games at lunchtimes. It is proving very popular and we are hoping to expand the club into other year groups in time and would also appreciate any donations of Subbuteo equipment if anybody has some hidden away in their attics.
dancers

Dance Club

Dance club takes place every Thursday after school between 3.30-4.15pm. It is open to a limited number of children from years 2 and 3 and is run by Miss Pearce. The children have the opportunity to perform at a number of events throughout the year.

NOTICE BOARD
We will be displaying our weekly activities on the notice board in the cloakroom so that you can talk to your children about what they have been doing in Nursery. Each week we will focus on a special colour and number. Children will be encouraged to bring appropriate items to school to put on our display table.

TOYS AND SWEETS
Please keep toys and sweets for after school as they can become a source of conflict if brought into Nursery.
