School of Engineering and Applied Science

Welcome to the School of Engineering and Applied Science

Professor Ashok Kochhar Professor Ashok Kochhar, Head of School

Engineering and the application of science has always been one of Aston University's major strengths. With a tradition of quality education stretching back for over a century, the University is respected by students, employers and professional institutions alike for its academic excellence in both teaching and research. The School was awarded a coveted 5 for Research in the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in 2001, and there is a good and long established reputation for cutting edge research within the School involving real problem solving whilst advancing scientific knowledge. The academic staff undertaking this research teach on programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, so new ideas and theories are always being developed within the curriculum.

We are continually developing new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to meet the current and future needs of employers. Within the field of Engineering and Applied Science postgraduate skills and a qualification enhance careers, especially when they have a practical application and relevance to the needs of industry. The University's graduate employment record is outstanding as each programme is carefully designed with industry in mind.

We invite you to explore our website to learn more about the many opportunities available in the School, through the five Subject Groups. Hopefully the website answers your queries. If not, please feel free to e-mail the appropriate individual in the school.

Welcome to the School of Life and Health Sciences

From Professor Martin Griffin, Head of School

The School of Life and Health Sciences is acknowledged as one of the leading centres of health sciences within the UK, with an outstanding reputation for teaching and research.

The School offers a wide range of programmes, most of which have an integrated placement opportunity providing hospital or clinical experience. There is a huge breadth of academic research undertaken by academics within the School, and the integration of this information from lecturers and professors both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels gives students a distinct advantage in having access to the latest trends, thinking, issues and research in their particular field. The nature of the programmes within the Academic School means that relevant professional experts regularly review course content.

In order to incorporate the rapidly changing demands of the work environment, and the relevant skills demanded by employers, courses are constantly being developed to fulfil the needs of the Health Sciences industry. The list of company contacts and partnerships with the School of Life and Health Sciences is extensive, providing a wealth of learning opportunities both on campus and in the workplace.
