No tuition fees to pay until after you graduate
The tuition fee for all full-time Aston Undergraduate programmes will be £3,070 per year.†
The tuition fee for full-time Year Zero and Foundation Degree programmes will be £1,225 per year.
Student Loans to pay tuition fees and to meet your living expenses available to all eligible students from the Student Loans Company.
Maintenance grants of up to £2,765 pa available to UK students, dependent on family income, from the Student Loans Company.
Aston bursaries available up to £750 to UK students, in addition to the maintenance grant, dependent on family income.
The tuition fees for study placement years and work placement years will be £1,535. If you are on placement you will receive an Aston Placement Allowance of £1,000. If you are on an unpaid placement or placement outside the UK (eg Year Abroad) you will receive an additional Aston Placement Bursary of £500 (£1,500 in total).
You will be eligible for an additional Aston Subject Specific Award of £750 per year if you are studying a programme in one of a number of our subject areas of regional or national importance (see right for details)

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees for 2007 entry do not have to be paid ‘up front’, although students have the option of paying them up front if they wish. You can take out a student loan to cover the whole tuition fee. This is paid direct to the University on your behalf.

For UK and EU students entering in 2007, the tuition fee will be £3,070 per year for all eligible full-time courses at Aston, except for students on work placement years or study placement years who will pay a tuition fee of £1,535 (see below for our additional placement/year abroad bursaries).

The tuition fee for full-time Foundation Degrees or Year Zero programmes is approximately £1,225 for the foundation/year zero part of the programme. Students who progress from Foundation Degrees or Year Zero programmes to Degree programmes at Aston will be required to pay tuition fees at the higher rate of £3,070 plus the appropriate inflationary increase for Year 1 and subsequent years of their Degree. It is expected that tuition fees will rise annually by approximately the rate of inflation in line with Government guidelines.

Aston University Bursary Scheme of up to £750 per year

In 2007, the University will be awarding Aston Bursaries to all new home students in receipt of a maintenance grant. If you are entitled to the maximum maintenance grant of £2,765, you will receive a Bursary for £750 pa. If you are in receipt of a partial maintenance grant you will receive a Bursary of up to £749. The Bursary is paid directly to you. You will not have to complete a separate application form for the Bursary. The University will need to see a copy of the support notification from your LEA and will use this to assess your entitlement to a Bursary. If your LEA support notification changes, so will your entitlement to the Bursary. You may use your Bursary to pay your tuition fees or to cover your living expenses. Our bursaries are not based on academic performance at A level, unlike some Universities.

Aston Bursaries will not be available if you are on a Foundation Degree, Year Zero programme, language placement or sandwich placement.

Aston Subject-Specific Awards of £750 per year

For the 2007/8 intake of UK/EU students to Undergraduate programmes, the University will offer Subject-Specific Awards of £750 in a number of our subject areas of regional or national importance, including: • Biology and Biomedical Sciences Programmes

Full Modern Language Programmes
Accredited Engineering and Science Programmes
Combined Honours Programmes in Chemistry, Maths and Biology

These Awards are made irrespective of family income and are not based on academic performance at A-level, unlike some Universities. A full listing of eligible programmes is available here: Subject Specific Awards

It is intended that Subject-Specific Awards will be awarded annually to all students following eligible programmes provided that you meet the normal requirements for progression from one year of the programme to the next year of the programme.

Aston Placement Allowances & Placement Bursaries

Aston University is committed to the concept of integrated sandwich placement years and year abroad programmes, and has over 50 years experience of offering these degrees, giving our students valuable experience which increases their employability and confidence, enabling many of them to fast-track in their future Graduate careers.

In recognition of this, for the 2007/08 intake of UK/EU students to Undergraduate programmes, the University will offer a Placement Allowance of £1000 to every student who undertakes a sandwich placement year.

UK/EU students who undertake an unpaid sandwich work/study placement or a placement outside the United Kingdom for a whole academic year will receive an additional Placement Bursary of £500. This includes languages students on their Year Abroad.

The Placement Allowance and the Placement Bursaries can be used to pay tuition fees or to help support students on their placement year/year abroad. Many Aston students are also paid a salary on their placement year.

Assistance with Unforeseen Financial Hardship

Additional financial support from the Access to Learning Fund may also available to UK students. Assessments are carried out according to guidelines laid down by the Government. Mature students, students with childcare costs, disabled students and students from a low-income background are given priority.

Government assistance with Living Costs Student Loans

Student loans for living expenses are available to all eligible UK students. The majority of EU students will not qualify for a loan to help with living costs. However, if you are starting your course in 2007/8 and you having been living in the UK for 3 years or more (i.e. you must have been living in the UK by 31 August 2004 or before that date) you may be eligible to apply for the cost of living loan. How much you can borrow will depend on your family income. Student loan figures for 2007 are not yet available. As a guide, in 2006 the maximum student loan was £4,405 for students living away from home and £3,415 for students living at home.

Eligible students are entitled to 75% of the maximum loan whatever the income of you or your family. The other 25% will depend on income and how much maintenance grant you receive.

Maintenance Grants

From 2006, the Government has introduced a grant of up to £2,765 per year to new, full-time Undergraduate students from lower income households. The grant is available to English and Welsh students and does not have to be paid back. The level of grant will reduce as your family income increases. Students from families with an income of around £17,910 are likely to receive the full grant. Partial grants will be available for those with family incomes between £17,910 and around £38,330.
