After School Clubs
We have lots of clubs to join and activities to do in Braniel after school has ended. Here is an example of one or two of them:
Football 2003-6

Our Football club is well attended by boys who are keen to learn new skills and add to old ones. There is always a good game to be had, as well as the chance to try out for the team. The football Club meet on a Thursday afternoon in the Autumn and Spring term. The soccer team competes in the local section of the Belfast Primary Schools’ League. As well as ‘The Belfast 6-a-side’, ‘The Coca-Cola 5-a-side’, ‘The Walkers Crisps tournament’ and ‘The Castlereagh 7-a-side’, achieving some very impressive score lines and some excellent team performances. We are also fortunate enough to benefit from Coaching assistance from IFA and Glentoran FC players and coaches. Here is the Captain of the Glens, Chris Walker who is working with the boys this year. Some of our past pupils and current pupils are talented enough to also play for other clubs such as Glentoran F.C. eg Stephen Watt(2000-2001).

Here are two of this year's P7s in their club strips.

2005/6
- Well done to Lee Chapman and Jordan Thompson for being selected to play on the Belfast Primary Schoolboys side who toured to Scotland on the weekend 19-21 May 06. They took part in the Celtic Cup tournament and played against a team from Dublin, Scotland and the Isle of Man. The Belfast lads won all their games and came home with the Cup! Well done boys. Hockey 2003-6
Girls’ hockey is well attended by around 30 girls from P5-P7. Practices are held on Wednesday afternoons and as well as playing practice games the girls participate enthusiastically in the Belfast Girls’ Primary School Hockey League. Team members love the experience of playing against other schools and in all matches play to the very best of their ability.

Rugby 2003-6

Our mini-rugby club meets in the late Spring and Summer term on a Thursday Afternoon. It is open to boys and girls from P5-P7. Those who attend practice sessions are developing their knowledge of the game and having fun too! We always get an opportunity to play some friendly games at the start of the school season and towards the end of the year enter a team in the Belfast Schools Mini-Rugby Tournament.

Netball 2003-6

The Netball club in Braniel primary school is well attended by a good mix of primary 5-7 girls. Each Tuesday afternoon they meet together to learn new skills, practice old skills and enjoy themselves. The girls have proved themselves to be a winning team from the start this year and meet all their games with enthusiasm.

Music & Drama
Production 2001
You may think that Shakespeare is only for university students …… but here in Braniel we are a step ahead ! In 2000 the main thrust at Drama Club was working through Macbeth. P5-7 children loved being witches, acting the evil Lady Macbeth and participating in battle scenes. It was amazing how quickly they grasped the language and it just proved that Shakespeare can appeal to all ages !
In 2001 we used traditional Fairy Tales to teach dramatic skills and our dramatists are proving to be great character actors. Their skills were put to good use as we not only worked towards performing in the Key stage 2 Christmas service but also worked towards a school show in the new year!
With all this rewarding work and fun, to join or not to join? That was the question.
So in 2001 the full focus of attention in Term 2 was on our Easter production of "Cinders". Yes, I did say Easter....I know it's a panto!!!!
Every member in school, staff and pupil was involved in this in one way or another. From direction to choreography, lights to costumes, there was a lot of sweat and tears shed! However the final production was a roaring success and here are a selection of photos for you to appreciate the amount of hard work one and all put in.
