ADMISSIONS TO RECEPTION CLASS
Children are admitted to Reception Class in September of each year. We are presently restricted to a maximum class size of 30. If we are over-subscribed, the places are allocated using the following criteria – living within zone – siblings in school – distance from school. Parents are most welcome to come and look round when they are considering applying to the school.
During the term preceding admission there is a programme of pre-school visits for new starters to enable children to get to know the staff. There are a few simple rules to bear in mind in order to make your child’s time in school as profitable and successful as possible. On admission to Reception, it would be a great help to the teacher, if your child could undertake the following simple tasks
- Tie shoe laces and unbuckle sandals.
- Wash hands and face.
- Dress and undress alone.
- Go to the toilet alone
- Use a knife, fork and spoon.
BEHAVIOUR
Brookside Primary School has Behaviour and Anti-Bullying and Racial Equality Policies which, along with all other policies, are available for parents to come and read. Anti-social behaviour targeted by a group or individual against another is recognised and severely dealt with. Bullying of any kind is simply not tolerated. Children who feel troubled or threatened are always urged to discuss the problem with a teacher, teaching assistant or mid-day assistant. Parents are encouraged to see teachers or the headteacher if they have concerns about their child.
