Burton School is a Church of England Controlled Primary School located in the village of Burton in Christchurch Dorset. The school has close links with St. Lukes Church in the village. It is a focus for the village and has a reputation as a happy, caring school.
There has been a school in the village since 1876 when the local church was converted into a school. This building was, until summer 1999, the school annexe on Burton Green. All the children are now housed at the main school site in Campbell Road. During 2001/02 there was substantial building work at the school site in Campbell Road, which provided 3 new classrooms and an information centre with fifteen computers. There are approximately 280 children currently on roll.
The staff and the governors are intent on providing the best for Burton children. The evidence of this can be seen when you look at the classrooms and displays of work around the school. The look of the school is very important to us. The classrooms are bright, attractive and well resourced. Besides the day to day resources you would expect to find in classrooms, all classes have at least one computer. Outside we have a good sized playing field, an adventure playground for the younger children, and a 'wild area'.
The school was last inspected in May 2004. This inspection report is available on the OFSTED website. We are proud of the fact that no lesson has ever been judged as less than satisfactory in any of our three OFSTED inspections, with a high proportion of lessons being judged as good, very good, or excellent.
Our Home - School -Child agreement describes our aims and values. The school is part of, and serves, the local community of Burton Village. We are a Church of England School and promote Christian values through the experiences we offer our pupils.
