Channelkirk Primary School is a non-denominational primary school catering for children aged 3 to 12.  There are three primary classes and a nursery which runs in the morning.

Currently at Channelkirk we have a nursery class for 3 and 4 year old children which runs five mornings per week.  An infant class which has 22 children in P1,P2 and P3.  A junior class which has twenty one, P4 and 5 children and a senior class of 15 children in P6 and. 

The main building consists of two Classrooms, a Head Teachers Office, a Hall, a Library/Resources Area, a Staff Room, Kitchen, Toilets and Store Cupboard.  The infant and senior class are situated in the main building.  The nursery and junior  classroom is located in a building next to the school.

There is a large playing area surrounding the school.  There is a tarred path surrounding the school and a large flat area for playing ball games.  A proportion of the playing area is grassed this contains trees, bushes and flowers which the children have planted.  The children also have access to large playing fields within the village for sporting activities.

History of Channelkirk Primary School

There were other schools in the area until 1855 when a new school was built on the site we now occupy.  That school consisted of one room until 1874 when another room was added.  That building was basically sound but by the early 1970's space became difficult and two prefabricated classrooms were added to the site. Construction work began in November 1991 to extend and refurbish the original 19th century building.  In 1992'93 the new school was completed, fitted out and ready for the staff and children to move into.

Enrolment Arrangements Enrolment for pupils is the first week in February for entry to school in August. Pupils must have reached their fifth birthday by 28th February of the following year. The children also have  visit mornings to the primary one classroom.  Children become familiar with the school, meet the teachers and other children. This is also an ideal time for parents to ask questions and seek information on any matters which may concern them.  Transport Children who live over two miles from the school are entitled to free school transport. Contact the school  if you require further information.  Uniform We are proud of Channelkirk Primary and wearing school uniform helps the children to identify with the school. Order forms can be obtained from the school office. Sweatshirt: Blue with school logo Polo Shirt: White with school logo Navy Blue or Black: Trousers, shorts or skirts Indoor shoes: Plimsoles Gym: The children are required to wear a white T-shirt and navy or black shorts. Plimsoles are also required as well as trainers/football boots for older children. Arts and Crafts: An old shirt, apron or large t-shirt is useful to protect clothes. Swimming: Swimming costumes and towels should be brought on swimming days.    Please make sure your children's clothes are named! Its amazing the amount of lovely items that make there way to the lost property box. Parental involvement There is a very active school board at Channelkirk and a P.T.A. Good links with parents are well established and we will continue to build on these. The main aim of the P.T.A and School Board being to improve the quality of partnership between parents and teachers so that all children in school can achieve their maximum potential. P.T.A We have a very successful parent teacher association of which all parents are automatically members. The aims of the PTA are mainly: 1) To promote activities involving parents, pupils and teachers. 2) To fund raise. Regular social events are run by the P.T.A including a family barbecue and disco, a summer fun day, a quiz night and murder mystery night. Funds raised are used to benefit the school by paying for the summer outing and purchasing equipment. It meets routinely three of four times a year and enables parents to become involved in the running of the school and to air any concerns they may have. The Board has been actively involved in educational issues with the Scottish Borders Council in recent years. All parents are eligible to stand for election. Election are held every two years.
