THE SCHOOL

Consett Junior School was opened in 1975 as a modern purpose built open plan school.

The school serves the town of Consett and also attracts pupils from Delves Lane, Shotley Bridge, Blackhill, Moorside and Leadgate.

The schools tree lined grounds include a large play yard as well as football, rugby and cricket pitches.
The school is proud of its high academic, technical, artistic and sporting achievements in an environment where learning is an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

All children are encouraged to take a pride both in themselves and in their school.

The school is extremely well resourced to meet the demands of the National Curriculum and has maintained well above average results in 1 SAT s1 tests.
On transfer from school pupils attend either Blackfyne or Moorside Comprehensive Schools where the majority go on to achieve excellent qualifications.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

'We are a caring, sharing school community made up of individuals with particular needs, interests and aptitudes, each with

a common purpose to celebrate individual achievements and through

a common goal achieve the highest possible educational standards for all'.

School Statement of Intent

Aims

1. To provide an attractive, well structured stimulating environment within each child can develop at their own rate

according to their own capabilities.

2. To help develop the child into a well balanced caring

individual who will fulfil his full potential and will be well

prepared for the future at school, at work, at home and for

life in general.

3. To help the child develop responsible attitudes to other

people and property.

Objectives

1. To provide child centred education.

2. To balance the curriculum.

3. To encourage, enable, and allow within the classroom

situation the child to work individually/in small groups

under the direction of the staff at the speed the teacher

knows is right for him.

4. To provide a caring, happy and flexible school atmosphere

to help develop each child towards good working attitudes,

to encourage the highest academic standards. To create

an interest and enjoyment of learning.

5. To encourage happy, stable relationships within the school.

schoolAs you can see from the Aims and Objectives above we in this school believe each child to be an individual. The primary phase in a child's education is a period of rapid physical, mental and emotional growth and through a practical approach to education children can be given the confidence to cope with situations and build up a concept of self worth.

We believe in providing within this school as broad a curriculum as possible so bringing out children's skills and talents.
