Furze Platt is a highly successful mixed comprehensive school in Maidenhead.
We pride ourselves in providing a first class education for boys and girls of all abilities, with the majority of pupils continuing their studies in our thriving sixth form. Furze Platt is a specialist mathematics and computing school providing outstanding opportunities and facilities.
The school draws pupils from across Maidenhead, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. We have a well earned reputation for academic, artistic and sporting excellence.

Maths and Computing
As a Maths and Computing specialist school, our aim is to provide stimulating new learning opportunities for pupils which will capture their interest and further increase their enthusiasm and success in all aspects of their school life.

Maths Challenge
The school prides itself in developing many highly skilled mathematicians. Last year 56 pupils from years seven and eight entered the National Maths Challenges at Junior level. 36 pupils achieved awards, with 8 earning gold, 17 winning silver and 11 getting bronze.
Our top junior mathematician was a year eight pupil whose performance placed her in the top half percent nationally. She has been invited to take part in the elite Junior Mathematical Olympiad which will take place later in the year.
Year 8 pupils participated in the Enterprising Maths Team Challenge and the winners went on to represent the school in the regional finals at King's College, London. These exceptional Mathematicians are challenged even further by helping them take GCSE Maths in Year 10 and move on to A level study in Year 11.
Furze Platt also hosted a special Celebrating Maths event where primary school pupils from local schools joined in a variety of activities including problem solve, code breaking and exhibitions.
Parents
We pride ourselves on our strong partnerships with parents. All parents receive regular communications about their child’s progress and about developments at the school.
We have a thriving ‘Parents, Teachers and Friends Association’ which contributes enormously to the life of the school. All parents are automatically members. Click here for more details.

We actively encourage parents to express their views about the school. We run focus groups and there are regular parental surveys to help us see what parents think we are doing well and what we could do even better.

We believe homework has an important role to play in ensuring our students make the best possible progress.
From September 2007 all homework for years 7, 8 and 9 will be published on this site.

Getting the most from your Homework
Homework is an important part of your time at Furze Platt. Here some tips to help you to use your homework time wisely.
Write down your homework for each subject in your planner. This will help you to keep track of each piece of work’s deadline and to plan sufficient time to complete the work.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to complete your homework. A last minute rush to finish will not produce your best work.
Find a quiet and uncluttered place to study in. You should be seated comfortably, in a well lit area, away from other distractions. You should have a solid, flat surface to write on and all the things you need to do your homework to hand (e.g. books, pens, paper, a computer if necessary, equipment etc).
Take a few minutes at the beginning of each period of study to plan what you want to achieve. Make a list of what you want to do in the time you have available.
Try to do your homework at regular intervals. If you can keep to the same time each day, this will help you to fit your homework in to your routine.
Take short breaks during your study time. It is important not to become overtired.
Do not work too late; plenty of sleep is important if you want to do well at school.
Do your best to finish your homework on time. This will make it easier to keep up with your studies and leave you free time in which to relax.
