As Head of our school, I am immensely proud of all that my hardworking staff and children achieve each year. Our Governing Body support my wish that our children enjoy a rich and varied curriculum, and that our children are given the best possible start to their school life. We are a large school, each year group currently consisting of approximately ninety children. Classes are arranged to facilitate the most advantageous learning situations for our children. The teachers and support staff work together in teams planning schemes of work, class activities and agreed methods of assessment and recording. Throughout the school, children work at their own pace and level of ability and should it be necessary to extend or support children’s learning then careful planning ensures that each ability group is catered for. Most children go on to the Junior School 'next door' when they leave us. As neighbouring schools we maintain links to ensure a happy transfer and continuity in the curriculum.

Behaviour / Pastoral Care As a staff we work hard on our ethos, to make it meaningful and useful for children being members of a community in the future. We uphold core values of hope, bravery, fairness, wisdom, caring, respect, responsibility and honesty, and use these in all of our Personal and Social development, our Religious Education and our assemblies. We have a very simple Code of Conduct – Be safe, be kind, be responsible, and everyone, child, adult, visitor or parent is asked to support this while at our school. We believe that we are working towards providing a consistently welcoming and caring environment which both promotes and reflects cultural and social diversity, and is equally accessible to all.

In our Foundation classes, both full and part time, we follow the Foundation Stage curriculum which has 6 areas of learning, namely Language and Communication, Maths, Physical Development, Knowledge and Understanding, Creative Development, and Personal, Social and Health Education. We adapt this to make it suitable for our children especially those in full time education, since the majority will have had the benefit of our Nursery input.

The National Curriculum begins when children are in Year 1 and in our school, we include this under the same headings, so that children can make valuable links with their learning.

Our teaching and support staff are responsible for the planning and delivery of the curriculum. The Headteacher and Governors are responsible for ensuring that the curriculum is taught effectively.

All staff here are strong practitioners who update their knowledge base as part of professional development. We offer additional support to our children from Nursery Nurses and Learning Support Assistants who have all undertaken training for working with young children; some have additional first aid qualifications. Support staff also plan alongside qualified teachers. All staff, whether teachers or support staff share expertise and skills wherever possible, working together for the benefit of the children.

The whole school follows a series of themes for the year, carefully chosen to meet all the requirements of the National Curriculum. We provide a variety of challenging but enjoyable activities which enrich and extend children's capabilities and provide them with a positive approach to future learning. We strongly believe that children learn best when they are having fun!

Teaching and learning activities are planned each term for each area and are available to parents in each child's home/school diary.
