For the College Senior School, continue for about a mile and turn left into Belvoir Road at the first traffic lights. The College provides a bus service for pupils living in most of the towns and villages in the area, including Ilfracombe, South Molton, Bude, Hartland, Clovelly, Barnstaple, Braunton, Chivenor and Holsworthy.

The Dyslexia Department is housed in its own building with full time staff attached to it. Teaching is usually carried out in small groups of fewer than ten pupils.

Most dyslexic pupils come to the department for ten lessons per week. During this time they will receive tuition to improve their literacy skills and will also have their mainstream English lessons. GCSE English is taught in small groups within the department.

In the sixth form, attendance at the department is voluntary, but up to six lessons are timetabled per week so that students can take advantage of the learning support available. Sixth formers can also use the department's well-equipped computer room and quiet rooms for private study.

A carefully structured, sequential and thorough phonically-based programme using multi-sensory techniques is employed to improve literacy skills. Computers are used alongside traditional teaching methods.

Mainstream English is taught in small groups so that the literacy skills learnt are put into practice in a sympathetic environment and at a pace that the dyslexic child can follow.

It is usual for the pupil to keep the same teacher throughout. In this way, the Department teacher can act as a trusted friend and counsellor giving valuable help and advice.

Care in the School
Dyslexic pupils are fully integrated for all lessons other than those provided in the department. Everyone follows a full programme of GCSE study, in which academic subjects can be combined with more practical choices to match the pupil's own strengths. Dyslexic pupils at Grenville achieve a high pass rate at GCSE, (grade C or above), A level and other vocational courses. The School has a strong sporting tradition and a range of clubs and societies in which dyslexic pupils play a full part. The pastoral system, involving small tutor groups, provides support and guidance. The Dyslexia Department also produces its own newsletter entitled 'Grenville's Revenge'.
