Welcome to Hollingworth Primary School

About us
We are a long established school, on the threshold of our centenary (2009), and trying hard to commit to the principles of healthy, active and environmentally ‘friendly’ living. The school has an active School Council, which provides a voice for the children throughout school. The school has Eco and Healthy School status; we regularly support the work of charities- both local and national.
We have a new pond, a great area of garden that serves as an Early Years’ outdoor play area, and an incredible area of woodland that attracts a wide range of wildlife! We have an active and very supportive PTA, and an equally proactive Governing Body that works positively in the best interests of the children of the school.
Our mission statement is
"We recognize that each child in our school is an individual and that all children are creative and need to succeed. We provide a safe and challenging learning environment that encourages independence and responsibility. We emphasize the social, emotional, physical, intellectual well being and development of each child, that enables each to lead a healthy, productive and meaningful life."
We aim to work together in a relaxed atmosphere so that relationships can flourish, children can experience their self-worth, and their talents and gifts are recognised and praised.
Healthy School
Our Healthy School logo was created by the children as part of a competition, which was launched at the onset of working towards Healthy School Status. It is the result of combining ideas from three entries and represents the elements which make a healthy school - togetherness, healthiness and happiness.
As a healthy school, Hollingworth is highly committed to improving the physical and mental well-being of the whole school community. This is achieved by making every member of the school community feel valued and their opinions are always welcomed.
As a Healthy School we have established a number of initiatives, which are promoting health and well-being, these are;
School’s Council - a new council run by representatives from each class. These children are involved in providing a voice for the pupils and they organise and prioritise pupils’ needs around school.
Healthy School’s Day - An extremely popular day, held twice each year to promote the Healthy School message. This is a full day off curriculum, when children of mixed age groups are engaged in sporting, creative and healthy activities - from woodland walking, to cycling, to sandwich making! At Hollingworth we promote the health and well-being of pupils and staff through the curriculum and the general ethos of the school. We are committed to healthy lifestyle choices.
Current Initiatives Following consultation with parents/carers and pupils, we have decided to introduce healthy eating (the consumption of fruit only) for the Key Stage 2 pupils at break. The School's Council is preparing to have a cake sale to raise money to make the toilets more attractive.
We have achieved Healthy School status having met the criteria in all four themes: Personal, Social, Health and Education; Healthy Eating; Physical Activity; and Emotional Health and Well Being.
Two pupils from each class have been elected to act as Healthy Schools representative.
Regular meetings are held to discuss healthy school issues.
