Our School
Hunter Primary School serves the Calderwood, St Leonards, Stewartfield and Kittochglen districts of East Kilbride.
It is a non-denominational school which opened in 1964. Our current role of around 270 pupils allows us to have ten classes. In addition we have an infant open area, two computer suites, a library and a range of work rooms. We work in partnership with the Wombles Nursery and the Hunter Kids Club, both of whom are located in the School building.
We have a very committed and professional staff both teaching and in supporting roles. We are equally supported by a very enthusiastic and active Parents Teachers Association, an energetic and dynamic Pupil Council and by a School Board committed to the support of the School.
From an academic perspective we have an extensive and progressive curricular programme which follows the Scottish 5 to 14 guidelines. We have consistently maintained a very high level of success in all national assessments. In addition we also view education in its widest sense engaging in the promotion of good citizenship, health promotion, enterprise education and a whole range of approaches towards the personal development of the children in our care.
Environmental awareness is another key consideration we value and actively engage in. Our school gardens are an important aspect of this development. We value and encourage the health benefits of an active lifestyle. This is clearly reflected in our physical education programme, our after school sports clubs and in our participation in a variety of South Lanarkshire Council’s ‘Sports Net’ activities.
The School also plays a very active role in the local community and is consistently engaged in learning about and supporting local needs.
We also maintain a very close link with Hunter High School with whom we very successfully share our School campus.
