News Flash : James Brindley School has been awarded Specialist Media Arts status from September 2008

James Brindley School is known as a national leader in its field and it therefore seems fitting that we will be the first hospital school in the country to be awarded Specialist School Status. This is fantastic news for staff as it is recognition of our ongoing work with pupils with medical needs and creates a firm link between standards and the inclusion agenda.

We decided to seek Media Arts Status as this allows us to link three of our strong curricular areas, English, Arts and ICT, all of which provide pupils with valuable skills for life and help to motivate individuals during difficult times.

The school has worked hard to raise the £50,000 sponsorship required and is delighted to have been supported by companies such as Cadbury’s, Crest Nicholson and Lombard Vehicle Management and by charitable foundations including King Edward’s Foundation and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charities. We aim to build on our links with these and other local businesses to widen the experience on our Governing Body, provide healthy challenge to the Leadership team and create exciting opportunities for our pupils.

We have many plans for spending the additional funding that come with specialist status, these include the development of JB TV and the creation of the JB Media Bus, which will help inspire learning for our own pupils and those of our partner schools Holte School, Uffculme School, Longwill Primary School for Deaf Children, St Thomas C.E. Primary School and Osborne Junior and Infant School.

The purpose of this website is to tell you about James Brindley School. It will give information about the education we want our pupils to experience and some of the school's policies; also it will give you an idea of the ethos and philosophy of the school.

As a parent, if you wish to speak to someone in the school, we will be happy to arrange this. In the City's hospitals we are able to meet with you to discuss your child's specific needs; and in particular post discharge if your child needs further recuperation time. In the Units staff are available to discuss any of your child's specific needs or concerns you may have.
