Kilsyth Primary School is situated in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne at the foot of the  Dandenong ranges, with a population of around 250 students.  As a result of a fire in 1997 we have seen the whole school community work together to recreate a learning environment in a very short time.  We are extremely proud of the community support, spirit and cooperation in overcoming a huge setback.  Modern facilities, particularly in the Information and Communications Technology field, enhance both learning and teaching facilities for everyone.

At Kilsyth Primary School, we promote the importance of personal values with an emphasis on Pride, Respect, Integrity, Responsibility and Optimism.  We implement the "You Can Do It" social-emotional learning program throughout the school, with foundations of Confidence, Persistence, Organisation, Getting Along (with others) and Emotional Resilience

Kilsyth Primary School aims for excellence in all areas.  We are proud that our students learn in a happy, stimulating and positive environment.  We believe that students learn and grow in confidence and self-esteem through:

·        experiencing a broad curriculum

·        learning to operate as a team member and often as a team leader
·        acquiring problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
·        developing self-discipline
·        developing and upholding the school values: Pride, Respect, Integrity, Responsibility and Optimism.

Information and Communications Technology  is advancing with the well-equipped Computer Centre.  Computers are also provided throughout the classrooms and all students have access to the Internet, enhancing learning and research skills.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Kilsyth's culture determines that:

Every single child must be given the chance to be the best they can be, whatever their talent or background. For students to learn effectively we form relationships which nurture each student’s learning based on individual need to help them experience success.

All students are entitled to an excellent education and genuine opportunity to succeed. At Kilsyth Primary School, programs and initiatives have been developed that create and maintain positive and productive partnerships between teachers, staff, students, parents and the wider community. Students in our classrooms are intellectually engaged, and feel a sense of collaborative partnership with their peers and experience supportive relationships with their teachers. These classrooms are rewarding places to learn and teach.

Students need and must experience positive interaction with adults every day. Role modelling is a major part of the educator’s behaviour at Kilsyth Primary School. How we behave sets the benchmark for everyone in the Kilsyth community.

Good discipline grows out of respect. To deal effectively with students, we must form relationships which are non-judgemental and nurturing, enlisting their assistance in subtle ways, which helps each student experience success.

These expectations underpin our teaching and learning in the pursuit of excellence for our students.
