School Aims:

·                    To deliver a fitting, challenging and stimulating curriculum which will enable each and every pupil to realise his – her full potential.

·                    To provide a safe and caring environment where everyone is valued as an individual.

·                    To encourage our children to be inquisitive and reflective, to contribute, to co-operate and to compete. Above all to be adaptable in an increasingly changing society.

·                    To help our pupils, in partnership with parents, to develop personally, socially and intellectually, enabling each child to play a full part in family and community life.

Objectives

• To work in partnership with the school to create a welcoming school which is inclusive and meets the needs for all children and Parents/Carers.
• To identify and represent the views of parents/carers on any issue which impacts on their child’s experience at Kinross Primary, the education provided by the school and other matters affecting the education and welfare of the pupils.
• To develop activities which support and enhance all aspects of children’s education and welfare.

• To support the work of the School & Nursery within the wider community.
• To gather and represent parents’ views to the Head Teacher, Education Authority and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE).
• To promote contact between the school, nursery, parents, pupils, local community and local authority.
• To be involved with the appointment of senior staff.
• To have an understanding of the administrative operation of the school.
• To report back to the Parent Forum.

Each year the school strives to develop as well as to maintain a number of key issues.  This year particular attention is being paid to Raising Attainment in Mathematics, developing Science, Technology and Social Studies as well as exploring Enterprise opportunities throughout the whole school .Furthermore the school hopes to improve the Library facilities and the Nursery Outdoor Areas. N.B.. In Service Days are largely devoted to these issues. All children will be involved in Scottish Executive initiatives being developed in all schools – Determined to Succeed, Enterprise and Hungry for Success. Teachers will plan for these initiatives throughout the year.  We are also reviewing our developmental work in striving to be an ambitious, excellent school, aspiring to provide a curriculum for excellence to allow all our pupils to obtain success.

(a)               COMPUTERS The school now has more than 100 modern PC systems available in school. Seventeen are housed in our computer suite & the remainder are in the classrooms, giving an average of 4 computers per room.  All computers in the school are networked & all have filtered access to the internet.

(b)               LEARNING SUPPORT Class Teachers are able to call upon the

expertise of our Learning Support Teachers whenever a pupil experiences difficulties with the curriculum. Appropriate steps can therefore be taken to overcome any immediate problem.  Where this is considered severe or long term the school will notify the parents and arrange an interview with them.

The Learning Support Teachers can also provide help and support for pupils who require a more demanding curriculum. SfL staff ,as part of their normal teaching duties do support small groups of pupils as part of a short block or sometimes over the longer term. In this instance it is not necessary to contact parents formally.

(c)               SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS The school is required to cater for

pupils with severe or Special Educational Needs. This of course can include pupils who are physically handicapped, have specific learning difficulties or have behaviour/emotional difficulties. Each case is considered on its own and a Record of Needs may be granted after consultation with parents and other interested parties e.g. School Doctor, School Psychologist etc. Care Assistants and/or additional Teaching Staff may be appointed to assist with the demands of any such pupils.

(d)               HOMEWORK The main purpose of homework is to keep parents 

aware of the standard of work their children are producing and to encourage parents to take an active interest in this.  Furthermore homework introduces pupils to a form of work which is essential to full achievement in Secondary Education and beyond.

N.B. We would respectfully request parents to sign or initial all completed homework.

(e)       RELIGIOUS EDUCATION   School assemblies are held every week in the school. Sometimes these are whole school assemblies conducted by the Head Teacher, whilst at other times they are departmental assemblies conducted by the heads of departments.

N.B. Parents wishing to exercise their rights to have pupils excluded from R.E. are asked to consult with the Head Teacher.

These activities are currently offered to senior pupils or the whole school depending on the nature of the event.  Most are pursued outwith normal school hours.  Parents, as well as staff take an active part in these.
