Millbank is a County Primary School serving the wards of Ely & Caerau in the West of Cardiff. As Estyn reported, “quality of teaching is a strength of the school,” and there are many exciting after school clubs and activities to support the great work that goes on throughout the day. Yet it's also the more traditional values that parents often appreciate. With around 140 pupils, each member of staff is able to know the strengths and needs of each child, and provide a caring environment in which they can perform to best of their abilities.
The school Council is made up of representatives from each of the junior school pupils. We are elected by our classmates to represent the views of all the children here at Millbank. We went on a training course to be able to better serve in our role.
We meet at least once a week. Every two weeks a teacher comes as well to support and help us if we need it, but only as a guest. We set the agenda, take minutes and tell the teacher representatives what we have been discussing and deciding.
As representatives, we also feed back to our own classes, asking what the concerns are and suggestions as to how to tackle any problems
By organising our own meetings we
- Learn to become more confident
- Take responsibility
- Learn to solve problems fairly
- Become better Listeners and take an active part in discussions
