New Seaham Primary aims to provide a learning environment where children feelhappy, secure and valued.
We believe in encouraging the children to be caring and thoughtful towards othersand we foster the growth of independence, responsibility, confidence and self esteem through recognition of individual worth.
There are 255 pupils who attend the school. Children are organised into 9 classes,some of which are mixed age groups- this is carefully organised to take into account the ability and maturation of children.
The school operates an “open door” policy and parents are always welcome in school. We encourage parents to take an active part in their children’s education. |

Classroom of the Future Project
The school was awarded funds from the Department of Education and Skills to finance an innovative educational project based on cutting edge educational concepts using ICT.
The theme for the project is ICT and the Performing Arts. The funds were used to create three new learning zones in the school comprising of an Informatics Centre, ICT mezzanine level and a multi function hall. All zones are equipped with advanced ICT capabilities including a Digital Movie Making Centre, a Sound Room and a large multifunctional hall with ICT capabilities.
The school currently has 9 classrooms, a music room, IT suite, Informatics centre, ICT mezzanine level, 2 halls, a large play ground and a sports field to the north east of the school premises.

Foundation Stage Curriculum
Pupils in Reception classes are taught the Foundation Stage Curriculum which includes six areas of learning:
· Personal, Social and Emotional Development
· Communication, language and Literacy
· Mathematical development
· Knowledge and Understanding of the world
· Physical Development
· Creative Development
When the teacher assesses that the pupils are ready, there will be a gradual assimilation of the National Curriculum subjects into their curriculum
The school has a Teaching and Learning policy and all pupils are taught the Key Skills as outlined in the National Curriculum 2000. Thinking skills and Creativity are positively promoted in the teaching of all subjects. The teaching of cross curricular themes of equal opportunity, racial equality, citizenship, sex education, environmental issues, economic and industrial understanding, personal, health, social education, and spiritual, moral and cultural education is embedded in all curriculum subjects.
ICT and the Performing Arts
The school has a comprehensive innovative programme for the teaching and learning of ICT and the Performing Arts which is at times beyond the primary national curriculum. The attainment in Music and ICT at the school is very high and this innovative curriculum is part of the Classroom of the Future Project

Pupils with Special Educational Needs
Some children may have some form of special needs at sometime throughout their
education. The majority of pupils will have these met from the school’s own
resources. Some children may need additional support to meet their needs. This is
provided by SENSS staff via Mrs. S. Parkin who works in the school on a part time
basis, other relevant outside professionals and class teachers.
The school implements fully the Code of Practice for pupils with special educational
needs which includes early identification, parental involvement and individual
educational plans for those pupils on the register. The school has a Special
Educational Needs policy which is reviewed annually , copies of which are obtainable
