Polam Hall School is an independent UK day and boarding school in the North East of England. We offer continuity of education from 3 - 18 in a happy, friendly and responsive community where self-confidence flourishes. Our pupils are taught in small classes where their individual strengths are recognised and their particular needs supported.

From Nursery to Sixth Form we provide a range of opportunities and experiences which enhance the all-round development of our pupils. Respect for self and for others underlies all that we do and we encourage independence of mind and high aspirations. Our pupils leave Polam Hall well prepared for further education, their choice of career and their future life. We are proud of their achievements.

 Miss Marie Green

Head

There is no substitute for seeing the community in action and you are most warmly invited to come and visit the School at any time to meet staff and the pupils who make up our community and to discover Polam Hall's atmosphere for yourselves.

junior school

'Children love to learn' in our Junior School where the unique talents of every child are nurtured in a vibrant, happy and friendly environment. Girls are encouraged to reach their individual potential in a school where learning is fun and where enthusiastic, dedicated staff help all pupils achieve the highest possible academic standards.

Early Steps

Early Steps is located in its own building, providing an attractive and colourful area where boys and girls aged 2 and a half onwards can learn through play. Located within the grounds of the main school we take advantage of the beautiful school grounds and adventure playground, and often observe the wildlife around the pond and river.

We recognise the importance of the early years in a child's development and have a fully qualified nursery teacher and nursery nurse who look after the children. Teaching towards achieving the Early Learning Goals, each day is carefully planned and monitored taking advantage of the many resources available to us.

Our children are looked after in a warm and caring environment and prepared for the next steps in their lives.

For parents who are unable to pick their children up at 3.30pm, we offer an extended day service, which provides care for our children up to 6pm for Nursery age and up to 7pm for the infants and juniors.

extra curricular activities

There are a wide variety of extra curricular activities available throughout the year, both at lunch break and after school.  As you will appreciate it is difficult to plan these extra-curricular activities before the new session starts.  Once the time and venue have been arranged the girls will be notified.

Classes are small and, with enthusiastic staff, every opportunity is given to each and every girl. A structured and caring environment encourages each girl to achieve her potential. The girls follow a general syllabus in the first 3 years of senior school, making their GCSE choices in the second half of Year 9. Staff are always keen to help with these choices and the school runs a Careers Morning with representatives from various professions and universities being available allowing parents and girls to talk about the different careers with someone who really knows.

A wide choice of subjects is offered at GCSE. At Polam Hall we are proud to not only offer single and dual award science but also the three separate sciences. For further details of the subjects available please go to subjects page. The girls then follow their chosen GCSE courses for Years 10 and 11. The standard is high and public examination results excellent.
