| Admissions Policy. |
Admissions Policy
It may not be possible to offer your child a place at your chosen school, if the school receives more applications than it can take within its admission limit. Where this happens the Governing Body of St John?s will allocate places according to the following criteria in order of priority.
1) Looked after children i.e. children in the care of the Local Authority. 2) Children with a statement of educational needs in which the school is named. 3)Pupils with very exceptional medical factors directly related to school placement. Applications under this criterion should be supported by written evidence from a doctor. 4) Children of parents who wish them to be educated in accordance with the teachings and practice of the Church of England. The Governors retain the right to request a letter of support from the parents? priest or minister. 5) Pupils who have a brother or sister already attending the school and who is expected to be on roll at the school at the time of admission. 6) Children living nearest the school, measured by the shortest walking distance. This will be based on the Parents? address.
Applications for admissions to the school should be made to the Headteacher. Children whose 5th birthday falls between 1st September and 30th April will start school in September. Children who are 5 between 1st May and 31st August will start in the January before their 5th birthday.
Children Starting in Reception When parents have been notified that a place is available for their child they will be invited into school for a pre-entry visit. At this time important details and information are given out and it gives the child a valuable opportunity to acclimatise to his / her new class.
If the child has attended a LEA nursery, our Reception class teacher will have visited him or her at the Nursery prior to this visit.
Not all children start on the same day. We phase starting times to allow staff to spend more time introducing the children to their new environment.

| School Uniform |
After an overwhelming parental questionnaire, supporting school uniform, Governors agreed to make it compulsory. We find that with all children wearing uniform, they have a sense of common identity and pride in membership of our school community. Parents say that it avoids competition for 'designer garments' and that it is cost effective. Our uniform consists of: Sweat shirts, cardigans, - royal blue Polo shirts - sky blue or white Trousers, skirts, pinafore dresses - grey Fleece - royal blue Summer dresses - blue and white checks or stripes Sensible shoes, high heels are impractical and dangerous. A pair of sensible slippers to replace wellingtons or boots in winter. We do keep some stock of uniform in school and order forms. Please call in to the office. P.E Kit Plimsolls, black or navy shorts and a coloured Tee shirt, depending on which colour house team your child is in. P.E Kit should be brought in at the start of the term and taken home every half term for washing. Jewellery Jewellery other than a wristwatch should not be worn. If a child has to wear earrings, they should be of the stud type. For P.E., games and swimming, earrings must be removed or an 'Indemnity Form' must be completed. The Governors will not accept any responsibility for the loss of, or damage to, or caused by any article of jewellery. Parents who choose to allow their children to wear jewellery will have to accept responsibility for any injury to their child or to another child, caused by the wearing of jewellery. Parents, who insist on their children wearing jewellery, must sign a 'Letter of Indemnity'.

Some of these clubs are dependent on the weather, please ring to check. Permission is sought from parents, in writing, before a child is allowed to remain on the school premises after school hours.

Charging for School Activities
|
Educational Visits - Governors' Charging Policy The school regards educational visits as being an important resource to support and enhance the curriculum. Many visits will be subsidised from the school budget or school fund but it is often necessary to rely on voluntary parental contributions to be made in order to cover costs. No child would ever be excluded from an educational visit because of financial hardship or inability to pay, however a visit may have to be cancelled if voluntary contributions were insufficient to cover the required cost element of a visit. Please have a confidential word with the headteacher if there is ever a problem.
Each year Year 6 children are taken on a residential visit to Seahouses. Their itinerary often includes walks to Bamburgh Castle and a boat trip to the Farne Islands.
Visits have been arranged to Bowes Museum, Darlington and York Railway Museums, theatre productions, wildlife parks, Bede's World, The Oriental Museum and a farm. To study the local area, visits have been made to the church, the Town Hall, supermarkets, the surgery, the library, the park and various shops.
Invited into school to speak to, and work with, the children have been representatives from local churches, charities, police, nurse, librarians, the mayor, artists, writers, football in the community and local industry. For all visits, parents must grant permission by completing and returning a 'Consent and Indemnity Form'.
