| WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!
St. Joseph's was opened in 1972 on the present site. Previously the school was situated in James
Street, Devonport.
The building is light and modern. It has a large playing field and playground. There are 4 classrooms - 2 at Key Stage 2 and 2 at Key Stage 1 and a computer suite. There is a large Assembly Hall. The school also has its own kitchen which was totally refurbished in 2007.
The school is an integral part of St. Joseph's parish community and takes an active part in the
community activities. |
| As a Catholic School it is our mission to provide a safe caring environment in which to educate our children to lead full lives as Christians; to instil a love of learning, of self and of others; enabling all to recognise their God given gifts and to realise their potential.
The Catholic Faith is central to the day to day life of our school and to all aspects of the curriculum;
it is not an added extra which we offer our pupils. The curriculum is based on a religious understanding of life, and the principles of the Gospel permeate the life of our school . It is designed to enable pupils to grow in every way to Christian maturity - towards a fuller understanding of God and mankind. The school attaches great importance to good relationships within the whole school community so that there is an environment within which pupils can prosper. In delivering the curriculum the school recognises the uniqueness of each child and respects the value, dignity and individuality of each child. The school is committed to close collaboration both with parents and parish. |

| We try to make the children’s learning experiences as broad and as much fun as possible. This involves a great deal of learning outside the classroom through visits or inviting outside specialists to come in to work with the children. We have particularly close links with The Music Zone, Plymouth Museum, Tamar Education Business Partnership and Plymouth Youth Afloats who organise free Outdoor and Adventurous Activities for our older children throughout the year. |
