SCHOOL ORGANISATION

In September 2004 there will be 14 mainstream classes. The average class size for the academic year is 30 pupils. The school has a two form entry.

Each class teacher is responsible for teaching the whole curriculum, general administration and pastoral care of the children in their class. However, there is a certain element of specialised teaching and movement of pupils between teachers.

Key Stage 1 pupils are taught for 21 hours per week
Key Stage 2 pupils are taught for 23.5 hours per week.

These teaching hours include R.E. and part of the statutory daily act of worship, but not registration, lunch and break times.

Each child's achievements are valued. Their strengths and weaknesses are carefully considered and children identified as having special educational needs will be sensitively taught within mainstream classes. Where more specialised help is required the Governors employ Mrs Davis, Mrs Shaikh and Mrs Speed to support both the individual child and the class teachers. In addition advice and support is available through the Authority's Pupil Support Services. Parents are always consulted prior to any consultations with the Hearing Support Team, Educational Psychologist or other outside Agencies.

The school supports the Borough by providing an 8-place Enhanced Provision classroom for children with a wide variety of special needs. The work in this special class is highly valued within the Authority and plays an important role in the lives of the children, parents and staff at Stockton Heath School.

SPORTS AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

There is a wide variety of extra curricular activities in which the children may participate throughout the academic year.

The school is proud of its choir which practises regularly throughout the year and perform at public functions. The children have the opportunity to learn the recorder. Halton and Warrington Music Service offers tuition in flute, clarinet, keyboard and guitar.
