| Mission Statement |
|
Tanfield School is committed to the academic and personal development of all our students regardless of ability. We have a shared belief that the potential of our young people is virtually without limit and that it is our mission as a school to create opportunities and experiences that enable young people to achieve that potential.
We have a proud history of serving our community reaching back to the beginning of the last century, but our eyes are fixed very firmly on the future. Our mission is to provide a twenty-first century education founded on the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy but one in which science and information technology are integral components.
Science together with Engineering are our chosen specialisms, and they reflect our determination to tailor our educational provision to local, national and indeed international vocational opportunities as well as to the rapidly changing Higher Education sector as it adapts to new technologies.
Tanfield is proud to be an inclusive school where our young people are regarded as individuals and no effort is spared to cater for the particular interests, talents and abilities of each and every student. Indeed, personalised learning is the key to academic success and to the enjoyment of education as is the active involvement of young people in all aspects of school life.
We strive to model the school on the ideals of community, collaboration and independence of mind so that, when they leave us, our young people are prepared to be proactive, motivated and successful members of their community |
|
The Vision |
|
If, as a whole school community, we commit to the mission - there are no limits to our progress.
There is no conflict between our inclusive ethos and our determination to be outstanding in terms of learning.
This requires, first and foremost, outstanding classroom teaching from every teacher and excellent leadership at all levels.
We must all , teachers, leaders and support staff, know what part we have to play in creating the conditions necessary for outstanding learning to happen.
We want our young people to be:
- Motivated and enjoy learning
- Independent and ambitious learners who are involved in their own learning
- Feeling confident, safe and valued
- Respectful, considerate and polite
- Striving to achieve their full potential every day
In a school:
- That recognizes, engenders and supports excellence, and is ambitious on behalf of its students
- That values all its students
- That is safe, happy, fun, successful and celebrates achievement
- That is well organized, well managed and welcoming
- That is the heart of the community with no barriers to lifelong learning

The Disability Discrimination Act |
The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requires schools to have an accessibility plan to improve access to education for disabled pupils over time. The Disability Equality Scheme (DES) has brought extra requirements for schools to consider disabled employees and other disabled users of school premises and services.
The school’s Accessibility Plan is available in school. Any interested parties should contact the Head teacher in the first instance to view the plan. | |

BEHAVIOUR POLICY AND CODE
Our school is well-ordered and to maintain this we expect pupils to act with common sense, and to show respect and tolerance of other people and their property. It is important that children have this framework of acceptable conduct in which to live and work. Pupils are expected to follow the School Behaviour Code in lessons. This has six basic points and pupils who comply with these receive a ‘stamp’ in the Organisers. If a pupil fails on any point, the teacher makes a note of this in the Organiser. This means that pupils who consistently behave correctly can be rewarded with praise, certificates and prizes, while pupils who do not meet the Behaviour Code can be quickly identified and measures taken to deal with this.
Pupils are expected to:
Arrive on time
Listen to and act on instructions first time
Look after all equipment
Do not shout out – put your hand up
Come to lessons properly equipped
Not use unacceptable language.
It is the responsibility of all pupils to:
Be correctly dressed for school.
Be punctual to all lessons, assemblies and registration.
Be ready to begin the lesson, coats off;
have the correct equipment, for example:
pen, pencil, calculator, ruler, eraser, coloured pencils;
the correct exercise and text books;
the correct equipment for Technology and PE;
your Personal Organiser;
homework when required.
listen carefully to and follow instructions given by the teacher and follow instructions first time.(By interrupting the teacher, you are wasting valuable lesson
time).
Keep the school tidy and free from litter.
Keep corridors clear and free from bags.
Please note:
Fighting and bullying will be severely dealt with.
Excess jewellery will be confiscated and kept for a limited period.
Inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour on the school bus could result in the bus company withdrawing the bus pass.
Mobile phones are not allowed in school.
