Welcome to The Redway School ‘an extra special’ special school within Milton Keynes. We hope that you will find our website a helpful introduction to our school.

Our website has been designed to give you a flavour of our school, its aims and values, but to fully appreciate our school a visit is highly recommended. We are a caring school and work hard to provide a safe and happy place where everyone feels valued.

The Redway School focuses on meeting the needs of all pupils, both collectively and individually. We are committed to providing an enjoyable, quality education for all our pupils within a friendly atmosphere where they can fulfil their potential, grow in confidence and most importantly be happy. We believe that the school is successful in encouraging every child to feel valued in an environment where all achievements, however small are recognised and celebrated.

We believe strongly in working closely with parents and carers and welcome all contributions to the education of your children.

We provide a high quality education, and believe in developing our pupil’s basic skills with a particular emphasis on literacy, communication and numeracy as well as developing skills for independent life.

The Redway School is maintained by Milton Keynes LA (Local Authority) catering for children between the ages of 2 – 19 with a wide range of learning difficulties.

The school is located in Netherfield, near to both the city centre and Milton Keynes General Hospital. Our specialist facilities include a dark room, a light stimulation room, soft play room, music room, design and technology/ art room, a secondary and primary food technology room, a hall, a conservatory, a flat within the Post 16 department for the teaching of independent life skills, a gym and a magnificent hydrotherapy pool. We also have a family room, a large meeting room, a library with a Connexions Point, and a suite of therapy rooms used by the medical professionals who work alongside school staff.

The school has a specially designed playground for pupils in the Foundation Stage, a reflection area, a large play area for the primary pupils and various other smaller play areas for older pupils. The school also has its own fleet of buses – two minibuses and two larger buses.

From September 2006, we introduced a very simple school uniform for all pupils, except those in Post 16.

This is:

• Black or grey bottoms (trousers, jogging bottoms or skirts)
• White or red polo shirt
• Bright red sweatshirt
• Red cardigan
• Pinafore dress

• For PE:
• Black or navy shorts
• A white T shirt

Baseball and Legionnaire caps, a nylon PE/swim bag and red waterproof all weather suit are also available. You can print off an order form via the link in the sidebar to the right of  this page or alternatively obtain one from the School Office.

The Redway School hosts a number of clubs which run after school and on a Saturday morning.

Tuesday Sports Club:
This is for pupils within the Secondary and Post 16 Departments who are offered the opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting activities. These include yoga, basketball, dancing and sailing. The Tuesday sports club gives our pupils the opportunity to be involved in other sporting activities and also for them to meet sporting coaches and young people from other schools. The current cost for this is £10 per term, this covers the cost of the coaches who come and work with the pupils.

The Wednesday Club:
This is an after school club for pupils at The Redway aged between 8 to 16, run by school staff but organised by Crossroads. Lots of fun activities take place for example cooking, painting, indoor and outdoor games.

Thursday Sports Club:
The Redway and Langlands Integrated Sports Club!

This is a joint partnership between The Redway and Langlands School, to raise awareness of the schools to the students and also to encourage cooperative working at the sports club. Primary pupils from The Redway are joined by Year 6 pupils from Langlands School. It has been a great success, the Langlands pupils are very supportive and work well with pupils from Redway. The activities at the club have involved swimming, basketball, yoga and trampolining.

Saturday Morning Club:
This has been arranged through the School Sports Coordinator (SSCO) Programme for pupils aged between 8 and 11 who have been identified by their schools as having a ‘hidden disability’ such as dyslexia, dispraxia or who generally have low self esteem. The club’s aim is to improve the children’s balance, co- ordination and their attitudes to sport through raising their self esteem. All schools involved are LA schools that are part of the SSCO Programme.

Admissions to The Redway School are through the Local Authority (LA).  Children admitted to The Redway School usually have a statement of special educational needs where the school is the named provision. The school has a clear admissions policy that involves full discussion with all concerned professionals and parents.

Open Days are organised are organised during the Autumn and Summer Term to enable interested parents and professionals to visit and view the school at work. Students from the Post 16 Department conduct tours of the school and there is an opportunity to meet the Headteacher, teachers and other staff who work within the school.
