University of Chester is a long established institution in the North West of England, well-known and highly regarded in the UK. Its particular strengths are the support and care given to each student, the quality of its teaching, the flexible modular degree structure and the employability of its graduates.

We know that the decision to study in the UK is a very important one for you. You may wish to come and study for a short period, as a 'Study Abroad' student for a semester or a year, or for a full undergraduate or postgraduate degree. We offer you a very supportive atmosphere in which to study and to make friends. We have relatively small numbers of international students on campus, from a variety of countries, and we welcome and value the cultural enrichment which they make to our culture. We have put in place a strong network of learning and welfare support, including English Language support, to help you with any difficulties you may have.

Since its foundation in 1839 by William Gladstone and others, University of Chester has sought to provide a sound preparation for students in careers of service. The University of Chester was the first institution in England set up to train teachers and is one of the oldest higher education institutions in the UK, pre-dating most universities; all, in fact, except Oxford, Cambridge, Durham and London. It has been a significant provider of education, training and research for over 165 years.

We offer degree programmes at undergraduate (Bachelors) and postgraduate (Masters) levels, and a range of opportunities for PhD research study. the University of Chester currently has around 10,000 students enrolled on both full time and part time degree courses across both campuses in Chester and Warrington. The University has particular strengths in a number of academic disciplines and in its provision of work-based and integrative studies, which enables all students at undergraduate degree level to undertake a short period of work-based placements in their second year of study. It has a very high reputation for the quality of care for all students. A range of support services, academic and pastoral, ensures that all students receive a friendly welcome, a student mentor to help them to settle into University life, and a personal academic tutor to provide guidance throughout their course. Our students have an extremely high rate of employment on graduation.

Chester is funded by the UK Government's Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), in the same way as the UK universities. As such, it is reviewed and audited on a regular basis by Government agencies. We have achieved success in external audits and reviews, including a number of 'excellent' scores in the Quality Assurance Agency's Subject Reviews, and in the OFSTED Inspections of the Faculty of Education and Children's Services. Chester was recently granted the right by the UK Government to award its own taught degrees in future and during the last few years has undergone a very stringent audit of every aspect of its operation and provision.
