Villa Real School

Villa Real School is a mixed day school for pupils who have severe, profound or complex and multiple learning difficulties, or Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
The school was purpose built in September 1999.
Pupils are currently grouped into 11 classes. Pupils with Complex and Multiple Learning Difficulties work alongside their age peers in inclusive class groups. Pupils with Autism, who usually find mixing in groups very difficult, have a separate provision with scope for integration into the mainstream of the school when appropriate.

Our school aims to provide a thriving school community, made up of Infants, Juniors, and Seniors, where the individual counts and where they can gain academic, sporting, cultural and social experience - experience that will stand them in good stead for the future years. All our staff are caring, supportive and well qualified. They work together as a team to provide a structured curriculum that ensures good results.

CURRICULUM

Pupils at Villa Real School experience the full range of National Curriculum subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Art, Music, Religious Education, Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education and Modern Foreign Language. The length of time spent on each subject is dependent upon the age and individual needs of each pupil. The school has specialist rooms for the teaching of Art, Design and Technology, Food Technology and Science which are timetabled for use by all Senior classes.

Mathematics: Children need to develop strong foundations in Maths at the very early stages. We want them to have a positive attitude to Maths, be able to enjoy the challenge and fun of investigation and use their developing knowledge to help them to understand their world and communicate effectively with appropriate Mathematical language.

Art: Many activites take place during the school term with theme days being popular. Italian day, Japanese day and Chinese new year were celebrated with paintings, decorations and games prepared by the pupils and on display thoughout the school.

Music: Various musical influences can be heard throughout the school ranging from Aboriginal sounds to drum sessions, carol services and the schools renowned versions of "Joseph" or "Grease".
All performed with enthusiasm and enjoyment.

ICT: The term ICT means Information and Communications Technologies and refers to the use of computers or other technologies to store and manipulate information. ICT stresses the increasing use of computers for communications as well as more traditional purposes.Villa Real School is committed to training and use of computers in the school and encourages use in all subjects by all pupils. The school has a range of aids to make ICT accessible to all students, ranging from special software to interactive whiteboards and special access devices.

Physical Exercise is catered for in the school. We believe, learning at an early age that sport and physical activity is not only beneficial to health but also enjoyable, will help to establish good exercise patterns for life.

Food Studies play an integral part of the curriculum. Pupils learn basic cooking skills whilst enjoying cooking interesting dishes based on the Healthy Eating Dietary Guidelines

Conductive Education is a learning system for people with motor disorders such as cerebral palsy. It is an active learning process rather than a therapy or treatment, and was developed in Hungary by Dr Andras Peto in the 1940’s and 50’s.
Conductive Education has a holistic approach encompassing all aspects of a childs learning including emotional and academic development, as well as physical development. The aim of Conductive Education is to enable children with motor disabilities to learn to become as active and independent in their lives as possible

Villa Real School offer Conductive Education to children with motor disability delivered by an experienced professional team including a Keele-Peto trained Conductor Teacher. This service is provided during term time for children attending Villa Real School, and also for periods of the school holidays, available to both Villa Real School pupils and children from other schools in the North East who wish to attend. The school holiday activities are provided as part of Real Care Limited’s wrap around care provision.

Real Training has been established to meet the demands of professionals and parents who require training to support children and young people with disabiities.
As a local provider, we are able to deliver training at your own venue or can take care of all the arrangements on your behalf. We recognise the difficulties associated with training members of staff and therefore adopt a flexible approach to meeting your needs
.
