West Rise Junior School has been celebrated in the National Press and by Ofsted Inspectors for our creative approach to Teaching and Learning. At the foundation of this creative approach is our rigorous commitment to the core subjects. We firmly believe that every child must have good Literacy, Numeracy, Science and ICT skills by the end of Key Stage 2. It is the acquisition of these important skills which enables us to be truly creative.

We regularly work with creative professionals funded by Creative Partnerships and the Royal Society of British Artists to enhance the children's learning experience through film, dance, multimedia, sculpture and painting. We are the national base of the Junior Academy of Arts which is linked to members of several Royal Societies in support of excellence in the Arts.

Ofsted reported that West Rise Junior School gives added value which is above average. They also judged our pastoral care and Governance to be outstanding.

Above all, West Rise Junior School is a caring and inspiring establishment in which every child, parent and member of staff is encouraged to have high personal aspirations and supported in achieving their dreams.

Sports tops and tracksuits are not acceptable as school uniform.

School Sweatshirts and Cardigans (sizes 30”, 32” and 32”) are available from the school office priced £10 for sweatshirts and £11 for cardigans.

As from April 2007, our school colour is changing from red to kingfisher blue. Jumpers and cardigans in this colour will be available from the begining of Term 5 and red jumpers will be sold at a reduced price. Children are allowed to continue wearing their red tops for the foreseeable future.

P.E. KIT

For reasons of safety and hygiene children need to be able to change for P.E. and games lessons.

• Plain black or white shorts
• Plain white
• Plimsolls or trainers when outdoors
• Optional leotard for gymnastics/dance.

Earrings, including studs, have to be removed or covered for P.E. lessons.

We expect a high standard of dress from West Rise children and do reserve the right to forbid items of clothing, accessories, jewellery and footwear that are unacceptably dangerous in school or are against the interests of the children at large. We would appreciate it if all families would encourage their children to wear the correct school uniform.

There is now a wide range of other activities on offer through Master Sport, for a small fee. Please ask in the office if you want more details.

Drama Club
The next production we are performing is Nathan's Nightmares. It is a musical. The children have been learning how to use face paints correctly.

Hockey club
In hockey club we have learnt that you need a hockey stick that is about up to your hip and shin pads in case you get hit on the leg. Then we get a ball and with a partner we practise pushing and passing the ball.

S.A.Q. (Skills, Agility and Quickness)/ Athletics
In S.A.Q club we do jumping, running and bounce jumping (jumping from side to side over a barrier). Also we have to balance on a balance bar. We are timed and each week we try to beat our last result. At the end of the session we always do a relay race, which is really good fun.
