Out of school clubs have included Yr Urdd, Boys and Girls Football Training, Netball, Rounders, Recorders, Morris Dancing, Art and Craft, Rugby, Hockey, Athletics, Golf, Short Tennis, Gymnastics, Cricket, Crown Green Bowling; Years 6, 5 and 4 have Cycling Proficiency whilst pupils in Years 1 and 2 learn Kerbcraft. Clubs meet either at lunchtime or after school. Infant pupils in year 2 are able to participate in gymnastics and short tennis clubs. Pupils have achieved great success in the Eryri Gymnastics competitions for vaulting and tumbling in 2005 and 2006.
Pupils regularly participate in competitive games with neighbouring primary schools. The under 9s short tennis team were Welsh Champions in 1998 and runners up in 1999. In 1998 this achievement was recognised by Conwy County Borough when the school was presented with the County Borough Sports Award Junior Team Trophy. The school hockey team were the Colwyn Bay league champions in 2004. Year 5 pupils participated in the Conwy 2005 and 2006 Festival of Dance - Welsh Country Dancing, in Llandudno
Ysgol Cynfran was selected as the best primary school in 1999 for 'Promoting Physical Education and Healthy Living', and was awarded the Conwy County Borough Sports Award for Primary and Special Schools. The National Playing Fields Association, in recognition of the all round achievements in providing quality PE, sport and recreation opportunities for pupils, awarded a Certificate of Achievement to the school in June 2001. Ysgol Cynfran was accorded the status of Sports Marc Cymru NPFA 2001 - the first school in Conwy to attain this national sports award
Ysgol Cynfran is a partner school in the Conwy Physical Education and School Sports (PESS) Centre of sporting excellence.
The school received the Primary/Special School Award in 2002, as a consequence of its hard work in developing sports and healthy living initiatives including cycling to school, kerb craft sessions, a walking bus and regular walking to school events
Violin and Brass Tutors attend school once a week, also a voice peripatetic teacher for Years 3/4 and 5/6, the school choir performs regularly at retirement homes during Easter and Christmas festivities
In addition the school enjoys participating in Festivals and Exhibitions and for our older children a residential visit to Glan Llyn, Bala and Nant B.H. outdoor centre in Llanrwst. |
