Our main aim is to provide a happy, loving, caring and secure environment in which each child will develop his/her skills and talents to the full. Each child is special and a unique individual and so is entitled to the kind of teaching that will not only develop that sense of individuality but also a sensitivity to the needs of others. We aim to provide a broad, balanced and relevant education in which all aspects of a child's development are encouraged and stimulated, providing not only for intellectual development but also for social, emotional, physical and aesthetic growth.

The school is located in the convenient and attractive village of Northop. The county town of Mold is two miles away and Northop's proximity to the A55 Expressway provides ease of access to Liverpool, Chester, Wrexham and the North West.

Ysgol Owen Jones is a co-educational County Primary day school catering for both Infants and Juniors. Built in 1974, of semi open plan design, the school affords a gymnasium/hall, a small computer suite, ample well equipped classrooms, a branch of the County Library and large play areas. There are four classes each taught by a class teacher. These are complemented by a teacher responsible for Special Needs. The Infants have further help from one full time and one part time N.N.E.B's. School meals are prepared on the premises by County Council approved contractors. The school also employs a full time classroom assistant to support the delivery of the curriculum.

Every school has a Governing Body which is made up of the following:

• parents of children who attend the school;
• teachers from the school;
• people appointed by the Local Education Authority;
• businessmen and women and others working within the local community.

• Interviewing and selecting staff
• Deciding how the school budget is spent
• Overseeing the Curriculum
• Overseeing behaviour policy in the school.

Governors usually serve for a period of four years and they require no specific qualifications but need an abiding interest in the school. All Governors are informed about their responsibilities and training is available. The Governing Body meets at least once a term and there are additional meetings for other business. At the end of each year Governors prepare a report for parents and they are invited to a meeting to discuss its content.

Opportunities are available for children to involve themselves in extra-curricular/lunchtime activities. These will vary throughout the year. Activities this year have included:

• recorder & choir
• football & netball/craft club
• cross country/cricket
• athletics & short tennis
  

The wearing of school uniform is actively encouraged and in practice all children wear the uniform:

Certain items of uniform with the school logo are available from Forrester Sports, Mold. All clothing must be marked with your child's name. In addition, for safety reasons, please ensure your child wears shoes and not trainers during school time.

It is imperative that a child is happy at school. You are always welcome to come and discuss any aspect of your child's education with the Headteacher or member of staff. However as it is a small contingent of staff and the Headteacher has a teaching commitment, you will appreciate that it is difficult to see parents during the school day. Nevertheless, we are available for most days after school to meet with parents, but would ask that you make every effort to make prior arrangements to see us.
