History & Excellence Why choose Aberdeen? What can I study? (Undergraduate) What can I study? (Postgraduate part 1) What can I study? (Postgraduate part 2) Fast Facts Where will I live? How much will university cost? Are there any scholarships? What learning resources are there? What about support for students? Can I study abroad?

What can I study? (Undergraduate)

Flexibility and individuality are our real strengths. We know from experience that flexibility is very important in preparing our students for a world today in which new graduates need a wide range of knowledge, understanding and skills.

With over 590 first degree programmes to choose from in our Undergraduate Prospectus, you may not be quite sure of what you want to concentrate on - or even which degree you want to aim for. Since you are admitted at Aberdeen to a degree course rather than to a subject or department you can usually study any subjects which interest you. This applies especially to MA and BSc students. Beginning with a broad base of three or four subjects - traditional in the Scottish degree - gives you the freedom to plan your own programme from a wide range of options. So you can mix, match and switch subjects as you discover new interests on the route to your tailor-made degree.

You'll get the opportunity to become a truly well-rounded professional - adding a language, perhaps studying abroad, combining traditional arts with social sciences, and much more…

We encourage you to 'tag on' subjects that not only interest you but will be useful and will make you attractive to a future employer. This means you could add a course in science or law to your arts degree. Similarly, you could add a modern language or management studies to your science degree.
