Aberdeen is unusual for a big-city university in having a lot of student accommodation within walking distance of its main teaching site. There is a choice of University-managed halls and privately-owned and managed halls, all situated within easy walking distance of the campus.
The University-managed accommodation houses approximately 2,100 students and all single, new students are guaranteed a place in either University-managed or in privately-owned halls, even if you live in Aberdeen now. Late applicants cannot be guaranteed a place but the Student Accommodation Office will do everything they can to help you find a suitable place to live. Our experienced staff know how important it is to help you with the formalities involved.

The University does not offer accommodation for married students but may be able to assist in locating appropriate accommodation in the city.
Halls of Residence
We offer a mixture of halls. We have Crombie-Johnston Halls at the heart of the campus. These accommodate approximately 400 first-year students in single study-bedrooms, with meals provided. Hillhead Halls is the student village on the bank of the River Don. Hillhead has traditional halls and a number of self-catering flats with facilities for disabled students. Student facilities include a shop, launderettes, floodlit all-weather tennis courts and a football pitch. A frequent bus service runs to the main campus and the city centre. Most halls have a designated postgraduate block.
Other Accommodation
Students who don’t want to stay in a Hall of Residence can choose from a wide range of alternative accommodation throughout the city. There are lodgings available in all parts of Aberdeen and the Student Accommodation Office can provide a list of Solicitors and Estate Agents on request.
Wardens & Sub-wardens
To provide a comprehensive system of care and ensure that students are in a well-supported and secure environment, our halls have a team of trained staff in residence or nearby. If you need information or advice when you’re living in the Halls or a University flat help is at hand from our trained wardens and sub-wardens. Their job is to ensure your wellbeing and to help you get the most out of communal life. Wardens are usually members of staff. Our private developer associates also have cover in place.
