Student accommodation

Welcome to the University Accommodation Services (UAS) web pages.

Anglia Ruskin University has a wide choice of University managed accommodation. The University manages rooms in traditional halls, modern en-suite rooms, and shared flats and houses. The UAS teams appreciate that moving home can be difficult, and for many of you moving to University may be your first experience of leaving home. As such this guide will help you understand which accommodation options are best for you, and will also provide information on the application process and milestones.

Living in University accommodation provides an excellent opportunity to meet new friends, thereby develop your social and life skills. All University managed accommodation is located on, or very close to our campuses. The accommodation is therefore also within walking distance of the town centres at both Cambridge and Chelmsford.

We look forward to receiving your applications for a place in University accommodation, and then welcoming you to your new home.

Anglia Ruskin University

When you're moving overseas to study, you want to know that you'll be living somewhere comfortable, pleasant and secure. At Anglia Ruskin we can offer you a wide range of accommodation options, with 1600 rooms across several halls of residence, a number of university owned shared houses, or help with finding accommodation in the private sector.

As Anglia Ruskin is based in the city centre, accommodation is only minutes away by foot from shops, cafes, entertainment and other facilities. For more details about the range of accommodation available, and a picture gallery, please visit the Accommodation Services web pages.

Below are some key facts about University accommodation:

  • University-managed accommodation consists of single study bedrooms in halls of residence and a number of houses around the city.
  • Accommodation for undergraduate and postgraduate students is available on campus but there is also the possibility of living off-campus. We can supply you with regular, updated lists of many types of accommodation in the private sector.
  • All University accommodation is self-catering, so can eat when, where and what you like!
  • Many rooms have en-suite bathrooms, and nearly all offer wireless broadband internet.
  • The cost per room for University-managed accommodation ranges from £2500 to £4300 per year, depending on room size, facilities and location.
  • Homestay accommodation is available for students on short English Language courses.
  • Accommodation for students with special needs is available in Cambridge and Chelmsford and rooms are specifically designed to accommodate wheelchair users and carers. For details please visit the Student Support Services web pages.

Applying for accommodation

Although there is plenty of accommodation available, it does fill up quickly, especially in Cambridge, and we cannot guarantee that every student will be placed in University managed accommodation.

It is therefore important to apply for accommodation as soon as you receive your offer letter, in order to have a good chance of securing a room in your first choice accommodation.

Application forms are available from the University Accommodation Service.
