About the University
The University of Bath is rated in the top dozen universities in the UK by national newspaper guides.
Its research is internationally-respected, and its students are in demand by employers because of the high quality of the teaching offered here.
The University has had close connections with industry and the public and voluntary sectors since its inception in 1966. It has developed strong links with universities abroad.
The University's buildings are set in an attractive campus about a mile from the centre of Bath, a World Heritage City. It is a safe and friendly campus with strong student services and good social opportunities. Its sports facilities are first-class.
The University of Bath was very pleased to be ranked ninth among UK universities in the Daily Telegraph’s league table.
The University’s Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology was ranked first in the country, and its Department of Mechanical Engineering was ranked second. Its Department of Chemistry came equal sixth.
The league table, published online, looks at: student satisfaction; research strength; student entry grades; student-staff ratios; spending on academic services such as staff, books, journals and computers; spending on facilities; the proportion of first class and upper seconds awarded to graduating students; the proportion of students leaving for graduate jobs or further study; and drop-out rates.
The University was ranked equal ninth by The Guardian in May, and ninth by The Times last year.
A University of Bath spokesperson said: “We’re very pleased to be ranked ninth in the UK by the Daily Telegraph, ahead of larger and older universities. We feel this is a recognition of the high quality of teaching and facilities we offer here, which is reflected in the academic achievements of our students and their success at getting jobs.”
