Student Life

Students' Union (The Venue)
This part of the website is designed to give you a flavour of life on campus and life outside. We’ve brought together information on the practical stuff like accommodation and the cost of living, but you’ll also find advice from our current students on everything from sport and music through to shops, restaurants and cinemas.

The local area has a huge amount to offer and we’re sure you’ll want to explore when you arrive. That’s why we’ve included details of local places of interest – everything from haunted caves and the gardens at West Wycombe Park through to picturesque villages where you’ll be able to enjoy a quiet pint.

Our students union is very active and plays an important aspect of life at the University College. Clubs, societies, bars and bands are all part and parcel of the student experience, but the union also acts as a key representative body.

There are a number of useful videos in our gallery, so please take the time to watch as well as read. We hope you’ll soon have a much clearer picture of Student Life at BCUC.

Living Here

Brook Street Halls of Residence (High Wycombe)

We not only have a total of 1,200 places in Halls of Residence, but can also put you in touch with a number of private landlords. In this section of the website, you’ll find more information on accommodation, as well as our own rough guide to the kind of costs you expect to incur as a student.

Life At BCUC

BCUC is a great place to study and have fun, to make friends and gain the qualifications which will enable you to succeed in the future.

BCUC is made up of three campuses in Buckinghamshire: High Wycombe, Chalfont and Wellesbourne. Located on the western outskirts of London, regular train services allow BCUC campuses to have inexpensive & easy access to the bright lights, culture and sites of central London. BCUC is also in good proximity to London Heathrow airport, London Gatwick Airport, Windsor and Oxford.

Each campus has a unique identity, yet share a friendly atmosphere, excellent facilities and a great social life. Where you study will depend on the course you choose, but one thing’s guaranteed – you’ll have everything you need close to hand.

High Wycombe

At the heart of a modern market town, High Wycombe campus has well-equipped lecture theatres, a comprehensive library, places to eat and drink, as well as other great facilities. With fantastic shops, bars, clubs and a lively theatre, the town even boasts a professional football club, Wycombe Wanderers, who currently play in Coca Cola Football League Two.

Chalfont

Chalfont is our most picturesque campus, with acres of land and beautiful gardens for you to enjoy. While an 18th century mansion forms an impressive centrepiece, the facilities are thoroughly modern. They include purpose-built accommodation, a shop, a bar and nightclub, as well as a pitch for whatever kind of sport you’re into.

Wellesbourne

Just a few minutes from High Wycombe town, Wellesbourne is a very green and very calm campus – if you want it to be. But sports fans will be drawn to the extensive grounds and pitches as well as the superb Centre for Exercise, Health and Performance.

Social Activities & Events:

BCSU (Buckinghamshire Chilterns Students Union) runs bars on all campuses, supports a wide range of societies and sports clubs and also raises funds for charity. The International Students Association, run by student members and volunteers also arranges various activities and trips throughout the year. The Union arranges a variety of entertainment including club nights, live bands, cabarets, comedians and films; notable annual events include the Summer Ball and quality club nights.

International Students House

International Students House (ISH) is a unique social, cultural and recreational centre providing a wide programme of events for students 365 days a year. Located in a fashionable and safe neighbourhood, close to Regents Park, ISH is a central place to meet students from Britain and around the world. ISH provides all its members with the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of sports and hobbies in a friendly and fun environment. Many of the activities are free of charge as part of membership, while some incur a small fee. As BCUC is a full member of ISH, students of BCUC can join ISH for free.
