St Edward's Catholic Primary School

Saint Edward's prides itself on providing a warm, caring and yet challenging atmosphere in which each child is able to flourish and develop his or her own potential. In keeping with our Catholic ethos, we value each child's unique gifts and talents. Saint Edward's makes all our pupils equally welcome regardless of race, creed, physical or academic ability.

MISSION STATEMENT

At St Edward’s School we believe that every individual is unique and made in God’s own image.  We accept the trust the parents and carers have placed in putting their children into our care, as a privilege.  Therefore everything we do at school is aimed at developing each child to his or her full spiritual, academic and social potential.  To this end the Governors, in partnership with the Staff seek to ensure that:-

  • As a Catholic school our religious education, based on the teachings of the Gospel and the Catholic Church, permeates every aspect of school life.
  • We seek to foster a positive attitude between all members of our school community whether child or adult, showing mutual respect regardless of ability, gender, race or culture.
  • We encourage our pupils to be pro-active in all aspects of school life and seek and value their opinions.
  • We seek to provide interesting, engaging and challenging lessons that enable effective learning for each pupil.
  • We seek to provide a safe and attractive learning environment in which all children learn to be sensitive and aware of the wider environment for which they will ultimately be responsible.
  • As a Catholic school we believe that parents and carers are the foremost educators of their children.  We encourage parents and carers to play an active role in the education of their children and welcome and value their views.

ADMISSIONS

Applying for a school place for your child could not be simpler. Once you have read the information regarding our admission arrangements and criteria (contained in our Prospectus), print out and fill in our School Application form, and then return it to school as soon as possible.

As you also need to apply to our Local Education Authority - Derbyshire when you send in your admissions application to us, please ensure you indicate on our form whether you wish to apply to the LEA in writing or online via the link we have provided for you. If you indicate you wish to apply in writing, we will provide you with an application pack, if however you choose to apply online, we will note this but then rely on you to complete the LEA application online.

If you do choose to complete an LEA application online, you must not send them in a paper application. Similarly, if you complete a paper application, you must not apply online. Whichever way you choose, for your application to be valid, you MUST apply to both the school and the Local Education Authority. If you do not, your application will not be considered.

If you are in any doubt about this please contact us and we will be pleased to provide you with any further information you may require.

CURRICULUM

We provide a broad based programme of study which meets the National Curriculum requirements. Normally Literacy and Numeracy are taught in the mornings. We closely monitor the progress of each pupil in the core subjects through a system of individual targets and pupil tracking. This ensures that all our children including those with special needs or the more able children are working to their full potential and in such a way that all our children feel themselves to be valued members of our school community.

The subject taught are as follows:

Religious Education
Literacy
Numeracy
Science
ICT

Foundation subjects
Art
Design and tech
History
Geography
Music
Physical Education
