Ashburton Primary School is set on its own site and has its own adjacent playing field. There is an environmental studies area containing a small covered pond which provides a safe and exciting opportunity for outside investigation. We are also fortunate to be in close proximity to the local outdoor swimming pool which ensures every child in the school has access to weekly swimming lessons during the summer term.
The school building itself was remodelled in 1995 to a very high standard and all the classrooms are maintained with bright, individual colours. Each pair of classrooms shares a fitted design technology area. We are now also enjoying our updated ICT suite which contains 12 flat screen computers. The school has electronic interactive whiteboards into each classroom,
Ashburton has two intakes into the Foundation year, one in September and January. There are, at present, seven classes, three in Key Stage 1 and four in Key Stage 2. There are approximately 210 children on role. Each class has its own full time teaching assistant who supports the class teacher and enhances the learning potential for the children with whom they work.
The support we get from the parents enables us to provide our children with the very best education. ‘The Friends’ as they are called, run fund raising events throughout the year which provide the funds to assist with the cost of school visits, trips to the theatre plus any additional equipment that the staff would like in order to deliver the national curriculum to its highest standard.
Ashburton Primary School is in the happy and privileged position of having highly skilled and dedicated governors. They take a fully active role in the running of the school and are always welcome visitors.
The school has strong links with the nearby South Dartmoor Community College , with members of the college coming to the school to teach many aspects of PE. In return ourchildren attend a variety of events at the college.
Close ties with the local community are integral to the ethos of the school. The children are encouraged to take part in local events such as the laying of a wreath on Remembrance Sunday and singing to local pensioners at Christmas. Our children are also honoured each year with town cups on the historic Court Leet and Law Days. |
