Welcome to Bolham Community Primary School!

Our small, rural school is situated in the village of Bolham, which lies close to the River Exe approximately one mile from the mid-Devon market town of Tiverton. We are fortunate enough to be within stepping distance of some of the most beautiful countryside in Devon. The present school building dates from 1889 and is a pleasant Victorian stone building further enhanced by the addition of two new classrooms in 2003.

Our catchment area serves over 22 square miles of Devon countryside covering the villages of Calverleigh, Chettiscombe, Chevithorne, Loxbeare, Lurley, Templeton, Washfield and Bolham and including parts of Withleigh, Cove and Tiverton.

AIMS AND VALUES

The following aims are the foundation on which the whole school's development for the future will be built:

  • to raise academic standards
  • to develop the children's ability to think
  • to help children communicate in a variety of ways
  • to heighten the children's own aspirations and provide them with role models
  • to help pupils recognise their roles and responsibilities in the care of the environment
  • to help pupils develop self respect and respect for others

SCHOOL ORGANISATION

Today the school is divided into two phases:

  • Key Stage 1
    • Class 1: Reception/Year 1
    • Class 2: Years 1 & 2
  • Key Stage 2
    • Class 3: Years 3 & 4
    • Class 4: Years 5 & 6

Our children receive class, group and individual teaching at different times from our experienced team of teachers and support staff, and it is our aim to develop independent thinking, confident speech and quality learning. Confidence in our school comes from knowing and understanding what is happening within it and that is why we encourage your active interest, building a strong, friendly partnership between home, school and community.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Lunch time clubs are run by teachers, classroom assistants and other vetted individuals and we welcome any parents or friends who would be prepared to help. Recently there have been clubs for football, tag-rugby, gardening, didgeridoo, cookery, netball, basketball, tennis, recorders and dance. There is a small fee payable for some of these clubs. Children from the sports clubs have formed teams and participated in inter-school matches. During the year there are a few organised after-school activities led by parents and teachers. These activities have included walking (training for the Exmoor Challenge - a 16 mile walk), canoeing, pot-holing and kayaking.
