We are a Community school for 3-11 year olds based in Exmouth, Devon. This is a very exciting time for Brixington. From September 2004 the Nursery, Infant and Junior Schools became one Primary School, working together to give your children an uninterrupted education with smooth transitions from each stage.
Our curriculum aims to give academic success, with an emphasis on social, physical and creative opportunities. We hope you continue to enjoy taking an active and positive interest in what your child is doing at school.
We welcome you to visit and judge for yourself the opportunities we afford Brixington children. |
| These are the foundation for our whole school development:
To be a happy, secure, welcoming and safe place for both children and adults in our community, and at the same time an interesting, supporting, challenging, and fun place to be.
To have care, consideration, co-operation and compassion at the heart of all we do.
To embrace life long learning for all.
To deliver an educational approach that is cohesive through both Key stages and offers a broad and balanced curriculum that prepares the children for their future.
To value the individual and encourage each child to develop to their full potential.
To be a school that is a community, where all partners feel part of the community and know that they are valued.
To be a school where all those working in it are proud of their role and association with the school.
To communicate our aims and plans clearly to everyone involved, in order to achieve our vision.
To promote continuous improvement through self-evaluation.
|
| Our school is organised in three phases:
Early years:
Nursery, Foundation and Year 1
Years 2 through 4
Upper Years:
Year 5 and Year 6
Strong links are fostered with both the Pre-Schools in our area and Exmouth Community College.
We have three Family Groupings, so that children have some time in cross-phase assmblies, playtimes and occasional class groups to talk, play and work, so building on our whole school ethos. | |
| We follow a Creative Currriculum in order to make study stimulating and relevant to our children whilst attending to the requirements of the National Curriculum
The National Curriculum consists of nine subjects which all children study. The subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Technology with Information and Communication Technology, Music, History, Art, Geography and Physical Education. Religious Education and Health Education are also taught. Homework is also set. Pupils record what is needed in their Home School Link book and Homework Diary. The National Curriculum provides for children to be assessed at the end of key stages 1 and 2 in the Primary School.
Please take an interest in what your children are doing, and contact the school if you have any queries.
|
| Children can enjoy a wide range of extra curricular activities at Brixington. Our 'After School Clubs' are available due to the voluntary support of both staff and parents. Lists of the clubs are available at the beginning of each term, and will be sent home with the children. Some of our pupils receive instrumental tuition, which takes place during school time. If you are interested in your child taking musical instrument lessons, please contact the school office.
