| Welcome to Eggbuckland Community College
Eggbuckland Community College is an over-subscribed, innovative Technology College with a national reputation for e-learning and Student Leadership.
We hope you enjoy reading about our work and our community. We want to share our work with others and learn about the achievements of young people across the country and internationally.
|
| We will use the art and science of Technology to engage, empower, and enrich our wider community of students and their families.
Collaborating with all partners, we will define and respond to developing community needs. Exploiting technological opportunities and through our own inherent desire for achievement, we will invest in an active learning culture and a clear set of progression routes towards achievement.
Defining, promoting and sharing excellence in Technology, Science, ICT, and Mathematics, together we will grow the leaders of the future. |
| The College provides a broad, balanced education for its students. They flourish in an environment which balances strengths in traditional areas with the best of new developments and good classroom teaching, with a very wide range of extracurricular activities. Exam results are good; students have now gone on to all the main universities in the UK and they
regularly achieve success in local, regional and national competitions. |
| Many extracurricular or extension activities are available in the first three years at Eggbuckland. These include a residential activity for Year 7 and the introduction of the Duke of Edinburgh‘s Award Scheme in Year 9. All students are strongly encouraged to take part in these and other additional opportunities for learning.
Key Stage 4 is very demanding as the amount of homework increases and the deadlines for completing coursework follow very rapidly one after another. However, we encourage students to participate in extracurricular interests including sport, the performing arts and the Duke of Edinburgh‘s Award scheme. There are also new opportunities for involvement in the wider life of the College such as the Ten Tors challenge, public speaking competitions and helping to run the College shop. As a Technology College we have many extracurricular and curriculum support activities involving Information and Communication Technology, scientific activities and technology in general. For instance, Key Stage 4 Science students assist with our work with partner primary schools, helping to run lessons when junior school children come to use our laboratories; the main College ICT Access Managers help train other students (and visitors and staff!) in using video conferencing. |
| The Sixth Form at Eggbuckland (Years 12 and 13) is open to all students with a positive attitude, a willingness to work hard and the determination to succeed
Eggbuckland has a national reputation for its emphasis on the importance of ― Student Leadership in particular, encouraging young people to take greater responsibility for their own learning. With a large Sixth Form, we are fortunate to be able to offer a wide range of vocational and general courses. However, we also provide a varied programme of Enrichment Activities which students joining us subscribe to.
We feel that these opportunities are vital in developing self-confidence, community awareness, leadership skills, self-esteem and softer ―Key Skills‖. They also help prepare young people for the world of work and life in general.
In addition, our specialist Technology College status enables us to play a key part at the cutting edge of exciting developments and projects, from which our students are able to directly benefit. |
