WELCOME!!!

The school was founded by Susanna Harvey in 1870. She continued to support it until her death in 1881. Earlier, in 1865, Lord Churston had founded a school at Churston Ferrers and, as a result of an agreement between the two patrons, boys who passed 'Standard One' (children of eight years of age) went from Galmpton to Churston. This marked the beginning of the admissions system that we have today. We are proud of our history and our tradition. We hold an annual Founder's Day to remember our links with the past.

MISSION STATEMENT

We are a community within the faith of the Church of England, working together to provide education of the highest quality to meet the needs of our children today.

We value each child as a unique individual and we celebrate their talents and achievements.

We seek to promote in every member of our school community self-esteem, responsibility and good relationships with others.

We try to make our school a caring place and we strive for excellence in developing the potential of each child.

In all of this we value working in partnership with parents, who entrust to us the education of their children.

AIMS

  • To provide a range of educational, social and spiritual experiences in which the needs of the whole child may be met
  • To foster a spirit of continuous improvement which enables children to attain their potential and develop their talents
  • To encourage self-esteem alongside a sense of responsibility and care for others and the environment
  • To pursue responsible and trusting partnerships between home, school, parish and the wider community
  • To be committed to the effective and efficient use of resources to support the children's learning
  • To meet the needs of the National Curriculum and of the Diocese

CURRICULUM

At Galmpton Church of England Primary School we are committed to the academic advancement of all children to the levels of attainment of which they are capable within a supportive learning environment.

The Curriculum is arranged in accordance with the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum which are set out in the Education Act (1988), and subsequent measures and framework.

Through whole school planning we aim to teach a breadth and balance of skills, knowledge and understanding in each subject and to ensure continuity and progression from Year R (Reception) to Year 6, providing each child with his/her full curriculum entitlement.

Planned opportunities are provided for pupils to be involved in their own learning through observing and researching, communicating information, raising questions and solving problems, applying what has been learned to unfamiliar situations and evaluating their own work.

A variety of teaching methods and forms of class organisation are used to deliver the curriculum: individual programmes, paired, group and whole class activities.
