EARLY YEARS

Early Birds follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum through a structured and diverse programme which considers individual needs. The curriculum consists of six learning areas known as the EARLY LEARNING GOALS. Children explore these goals in every session in a variety of ways.

Each session begins with a greeting time when children have the opportunity to develop self-confidence by sharing ideas with their friends and adults in the setting.

Children are naturally curious and learn best when investigating. Every month Early Birds explore a new topic and over the course of a year broaden and develop their experiences. Hands-on learning takes place both inside and outside the setting. We make full use of our wonderful School garden and grounds and enjoy regular visits in our local area.

Children explore their creative side through art, music and role-play. They enjoy painting, collage, modelling and clay-work at a level appropriate to them. Early Birds encounter music throughout their week and have a programmed music session. Role-play naturally extends from play and the children benefit greatly from it.

JUNIOR SCHOOL

At Grenville College Junior School, we see every pupil as a “special need” with a wide variety of talents, skills and interests. Our role as educators is to seek out the very best from every child in our care and to encourage them to develop and flourish in all areas of school life.

Our community is warm and welcoming. We aim to provide a richness and diversity of opportunities over and above National Curriculum requirements, enabling our children to grow in a truly eclectic and stimulating environment.

Our aim is to exceed and broaden the requirements of the National Curriculum, in a school which blends traditional standards of independent education with the best of modern educational theory and practice. As well as Literacy, Numeracy and Science, we teach Environmental Science, utilizing the local area of outstanding natural resources. History and Geography are taught as discrete subjects every week. Our children also have the opportunity to use the Senior School’s Art, Design and Technology workshops, which are located on the Moreton site. Our ICT resources are ever-expanding; the subject is taught separately and is also integrated into other curriculum areas. Our pupils learn French from an early age, as well as some Spanish and German.

SENIOR SCHOOL

Our aim is to ensure that all pupils fulfil their academic potential and take pride in achieving their best. This is accomplished by having committed, well-qualified and caring staff. Class sizes are small; pupils are given tutorial support and academic progress is closely monitored. Prep is considered an essential part of the learning process: supervised prep at school is available to all pupils. In the first, second and third years there is a breadth of opportunity through the balanced curriculum.

SIXTH FORM

The Sixth Form at Grenville is very successful. This is because we expect everyone, students and staff alike, to achieve their best; nothing else will do. We must all live up the highest expectations – of ourselves and each other. The Sixth Form helps students prepare for independence in the world of higher education and work that lies ahead. So, while the overall environment remains supportive, there is a new focus on self-motivation and self-discipline. Most of our Sixth Form students are successful Grenville GCSE “graduates”. We are, of course, also happy to welcome students from other schools and colleges directly into our Sixth Form. Please feel free to arrange a visit.

BOARDING

There are three boarding houses at Grenville, each well-equipped to meet social and domestic needs, each with its own “extended family” atmosphere based on well-ordered daily routines and good relationships. Younger pupils share working and sleeping areas, enabling them to make friends and feel at home quickly and easily; as they move up the School, they progress to single studies. At weekends, a wide variety of activities are arranged, including sports fixtures, clubs, shopping trips, visits to local tourist attractions, tenpin bowling, swimming and horse-riding.
