WELCOME!!!

Hazeldown is a large primary school on the outskirts of Teignmouth with 14 classes and almost 400 pupils aged between 4 and 11. We are very proud of our school and this website will let you get a taste of what we are proud about.

AIMS

  • To create a happy, caring and safe environment in which children develop self-esteem and self-motivation, so that they are receptive to learning and achieve high educational standards.
  • To provide opportunities for children to achieve their full potential through quality learning experiences which develop lively, enquiring minds and a life-long love of learning.
  • To develop good citizens who are caring, responsible, self-disciplined and adaptable to change.
  • To create a school community where people are valued as individuals and encouraged to have mutual respect for others.
  • To enable children to become confident, independent adults with the ability to live and work in co-operation with others in a future society.

WHAT WE TEACH

All state schools now teach the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum consists of nine subjects which all children must study at school.

3 Core Subjects: English, Mathematics, Science

7 Foundation Subjects: Geography, History, Music, Art, Physical Education, Design/Technology, Information Technology

In addition, schools offer Religious Education and daily collective worship. Parents can decide whether they wish their child to take part in collective worship.

At Hazeldown we deliver all the National Curriculum subjects (together with cross-curricular themes such as Health Education, Environmental, Multi-Cultural Education and Personal, Moral and Social Education etc.) through a carefully planned programme of work at each key stage. This programme incorporates topics, themes and the direct teaching of skills and knowledge that some subjects require.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Clubs: Tag Rugby Club; Netball Club; Badminton Club; Football Club; Guitar Club; Drumming Club; Vio lin Club.

In Tag Rugby and Football Hazeldown participated in various competitions and matches. Area sports at Teignmouth Community College – all pupils received a certificate for taking part with many pupils gaining second, third and fourth places.

A group of Year 6 children enjoyed a residential visit to Okehampton, where they took part in various activities: canoeing, kayaking, wall climbing, orienteering, raft building, sailing and windsurfing.
