About Us

The school has good academic levels of achievement and has been recognised by Ofsted and the county as being a very good school. In recent years we have twice been awarded the DFES School Achievement award in recognition of our high standards. In 2002 the school gained recognition of positive staff development that creates an excellent climate for working within by achieving The Investors in People Award. The school has recently gained a Gold Award for our Travel Plan and we now hold an Artsmark Gold Award. We work in a thriving, creative environment with enthused and empowered staff. Our Teaching Assistants are a highly skilled team, receiving regular staff development. The majority of our lunchtime assistants have a NVQ in play leadership. Teachers are involved in county initiatives leading staff training for other schools.

AIMS

The School aims:

  • To provide a welcoming, secure and happy school where value and respect is given to individual worth, self esteem and mutual support
  • To promote the highest levels of achievement and behaviour and enable all pupils to reach their full potential
  • To work in partnership with parents, the community and other agencies to ensure the healthy growth and progression of children within our care
  • To provide opportunities for the development of creativity, investigations and adaptability in thought and action

ORGANISATION

We believe children are entitled to learn in a stimulating, secure and aweinspiring environment.

Classrooms are well-organised and managed providing structure and continuity to the school day.

The school is organised into Year groups - Reception (4 to 5 year olds), Year 1 (5 to 6 year olds) and Year 2 (6 to 7 year olds), Years 3 to 6 attend the Junior School.

In September we normally set up 4 Year 2 classes, 4 Year 1 classes and 3 Year R classes. Year R expands into 4 classes as the year progresses with the January intake.

Children rarely move classes during the year and it has been procedure over the last few years to keep classes together as they move from the Infants to the Junior School. Each class has their own full-time classroom assistant.

NURSERY

Our Nursery Unit offers 52 part-time places to children from 3 years of age. Places are allocated each term by an admission panel comprising representatives from Health, Social Services, the pre-school Playgroup Association, the Family Centre and the school.

CURRICULUM

The basis of all our planning is the National Curriculum it is a legal requirement that schools follow the teaching statements specified in the National Curriculum, covering the following areas; English, Maths, Science, Art, Design and Technology, History, Geography, Music, PE, ICT and RE and Personal and Social Education. Time is allocated to each subject area; in this school English is given priority over all subject. All are taught within a thematic framework, parents are sent information every half term informing them of forthcoming planning. Year Group teachers then work together planning for each term in order to accommodate the core areas and foundation subjects within our time plan. Attention is also paid to cross-curricular issues such as Environmental Awareness, Equal Opportunities, Personal Growth and Citizenship.
