| Welcome to Lympstone School!
We are a village primary school on the edge of the seaside resort of Exmouth. We have 140 pupils, about average in size for primary schools in Devon , many of which serve small rural communities. About a quarter of children live in the nearby town of Exmouth. Pupils are divided into five classes; our average class size is 27.
We aim that all our children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to live confident, healthy and independent lives. Our academic achievements are high and we give our children a broad curriculum with much emphasis on outdoor education, music, art and sport. We are a caring, welcoming school where we know and value all our children.
|
| If your son or daughter is starting school for the first time you should register an
expression of interest with the school, then apply to the local education authority for a
place. We will get in touch with you in the term before your child is due to begin to let
you know if your application has been successful and to arrange a programme of visits.
Children normally start school in the term before they become five years old. If you are
moving to the area or considering transferring from another school, please apply directly
to the school.
|
| Children are expected to wear school uniform of navy blue tops, with grey shorts or
trousers and white shirts for boys and grey skirts, trousers or pinafores and white blouses
for girls. Sweatshirts and other items with the school badge are available from the school
office. In the summer, girls may wear light blue striped or checked school dresses.
Proper school shoes are strongly recommended throughout the year.
|
| There are a number of school clubs throughout the year that take place after school time
or at lunchtime. These vary but currently include choir, first aid, cricket, hockey, art,
football, card-making, garden club, netball and tennis. Details are given to the children at
the beginning of each term and they are expected to get written permission from a parent
to attend. We actively encourage involvement in these activities which extend
opportunities beyond the curriculum. When children join these clubs they make a
commitment and are expected to attend on a regular basis.
|
| The curriculum at Lympstone C of E Primary School is organised in accordance with the
Devon Curriculum Statement and the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Our curriculum is broad, balanced and
relevant. The National Curriculum requires that we teach the core subjects of English,
Mathematics and Science with the addition of Information and Communication
Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Technology, and Physical Education.
Religious Education is also a requirement and seen as an important part of their
education. This is not a complete curriculum and we also include other areas such as
health education, personal, social and moral education, drama and outdoor education. |
