Sir John Hunt is a well established community college serving students of all ability ranges. Sir John Hunt has established a reputation for providing students with a high quality education in an exciting, caring and supportive environment. We expect hard work and have high standards of discipline. We respect each other to enable us all to achieve our personal best.

We encourage all our students to take part in the many extra curricular activities that the College offers each year. We encourage success and personal achievement as well as develop responsibility and self-esteem in our students.

AIMS

In partnership with parents and the community, the College seeks to:

  • Provide a sound education where the students are happy in a disciplined atmosphere.
  • Provide an environment where the students are stretched and can achieve their full potential.
  • Encourage and value all forms of success and achievement.
  • Develop students’ moral sense and spiritual awareness.
  • Provide a setting where all members are valued and respected as individuals.
  • Provide an education that builds upon students’ primary experience and gives a sound base for a wide range of achievement opportunities at sixteen.
  • Provide a wide range of clubs and leisure activities.
  • Respond and contribute to the community it serves, by preparing students for adult roles in society, such as parents, citizens, consumers and producers.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum at the College has been designed to encompass developments at both national and local levels. It meets the requirements of the National Curriculum, irrespective of disability, gender, race or religion: it is our intention that the curriculum will, for all students:

  • Provide a broad and balanced education
  • Ensure access to the core elements of the National Curriculum
  • Contain a coherent Citizenship, Personal and Social education programme
  • Build on the work undertaken at Key Stage 2
  • Allow for an element of individual choice at Key Stage 4
  • Provide an education appropriate to their ability
  • Take into account their spiritual and moral well being
  • Prepare them for college, national and public examinations at the appropriate levels
  • Provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities
  • Prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life
  • Equip them with the skills, knowledge and flexibility to change career direction in the future
  • Provide a comprehensive programme of Careers Education and Guidance
  • Enable them to access opportunities at post-16 for education, training and employment
  • Allow for the recognition and celebration of all forms of success
  • Be developed in partnership with parents and other interested parties
  • Encompass the most recent developments

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Our current list of extra-curricular activities is wide and varied, and includes: Hockey, Fitness, Rugby, Badminton, Basketball, Music, Careers, Dance, ICT, Skiing, Model-making, Cross country, Cricket, Climbing, Soccer, Tennis and Cookery. There are also subjectrelated clubs for Key Stage 3 students and revision classes for Key Stage 4 students in extra-curricular time. A residential experience is offered to all students in Years 7 – 9 where students are able to sample a range of outdoor and adventurous activities.
