WELCOME!!!

South Molton (United) VA School was opened in January 1880 as a result of the unification of the Hugh Squier School 1686), The Bluecoat School (1711) and the National School (1834). This new school was run by the Church of England and provided places for all children in South Molton between the ages of 7 and 14.

At present the school caters for children from the ages of 7 to 11 years. From September 2006 there will be five classes and 154 children on roll.

AIMS

OUR AIMS FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING are that all children will:

  • be tolerant and understanding with respect for the rights, views and property of others
  • develop a responsible and independent attitude towards work and towards their roles in society
  • achieve their potential in terms of academic achievement, aesthetic appreciation and spiritual awareness.

CURRICULUM

We follow a ‘themed curriculum’ in which many of the foundation subjects are linked into topics.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

We run several clubs at school some during the lunch-time and others after school. We currently have netball, gardening, and drama after school. During the lunch-time children can join a country dancing club.

With the support of the Sport for All programme children are able to take short courses in other sports e.g. tennis, tag rugby, cricket and athletics. Our teams play in tournaments and in matches with other local schools and enjoy a great deal of success

The school takes part in various events in the local area such as sports tournaments, concerts and the Olde English Fayre.
