St John's lies close to the centre of Totnes, a vibrant and historic market town through which flows the beautiful River Dart.

Set within a spacious site of approximately eight acres, the present school buildings first admitted children in September 1979. The Key Stage 2 section includes three self-contained classrooms and a mobile classroom with associated storage, cloakroom and toilet areas. An assembly hall and dining area links this area to the Key Stage 1 section, which includes four classrooms and associated storage, cloakrooms and toilets.

The children's play areas are large and well equipped and there is a large lower grassy field edged by trees and shrubs which we are able to use for play, sport and PE.

At St John's we aim to:

All state schools teach the National Curriculum. Attainment targets and programmes of study exist for teaching mathematics, science, English, information technology, technology, history, geography, music, art, physical education, personal, social, health and citizenship education and religious education. In our school these are not necessarily taught as separate elements but are often integrated into a theme-based approach.

A number of clubs meet after school at different times in the year, these include Netball, Gymnastics, Recorder, Football, Choir, Art, Taekwan Do and Music.
