WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

This School aims to provide a happy, caring Christian atmosphere, where children can learn and develop to the full, supported by close co-operation between parents and school. As a small school we take pride in providing a friendly and caring atmosphere in which children can learn and grow.

We aim to help our pupils develop appropriate skills and attitudes so that they can make the most of their abilities. Our school aims to be a happy, friendly and lively place in which the children can learn self discipline in a structured environment, whilst feeling loved and cared for. We believe that they should feel secure enough to question and think for themselves and work hard and experience fun. We believe that every person involved with this school is part of a team and should be valued as such. Everyone should be encouraged to care for others, be courteous, punctual, friendly and open and enjoy their time in school.

ORGANISATION

Our School caters for children from 4 to 11 years. During the academic year the number of children on roll will be between 150 and 170 with an anticipated intake of 25 to 30 children during the year. Children normally transfer from here to Clyst Vale Community College in the September following their eleventh birthday. Children are currently being admitted to this school in two intakes at September & January. The September intake consists of children whose 5th birthday falls between 1st. September and 28th February, while the January intake consists of children with 5th birthdays between 1st March and 31st. August. Class sizes average the mid-twenties. Currently there are seven classes, three infant and four junior. Broadly these classes are arranged as:

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2; covering National Curriculum years R, 1, and 2. Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, & Year 6.

We currently offer during the year a variety of clubs and activities, these can include:

  • Rock-climbing

  • Canoeing
  • Sailing

  • A variety of other activities
These are mainly for the older children

CURRICULUM

At Stoke Canon V.C. Primary School we offer a broad curriculum in line with national requirements, including the National Curriculum and Literacy and Numeracy Strategies. Due attention is given to each subject to ensure full coverage of every area and progression throughout the school. Staff work closely together to plan the curriculum in order to achieve both topic-based work and single subject teaching. Links across curriculum subjects provide opportunities for children to learn within carefully structured topic frameworks, particularly in the early years. More emphasis is given to distinct subjects with older children.

Children are taught in whole classes, groups and individually, depending on the nature of the task. Their progress is assessed throughout the school year in order to identify any problem areas and to ensure that each child has the opportunity to reach his/her maximum potential.
