WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

The Erme Primary School is the oldest of the schools in Ivybridge, built in 1856 and has recently undertaken a large extension rebuilding programme. We combine the old with the new to create a family feel to our warm and friendly school.

The new part of the school comprises of a music and drama room, hall with Olympic standard floor, new offices and atrium.

We take part in a large number of sporting events in the area and have an extensive number of extra curricula clubs.

AIMS AND VALUES

As a school family, we will aim to be:

  • Happy, confident and motivated
  • Enthusiastic, independent and co-operative learners
  • To communicate
  • To respect ourselves, other and the environment
  • To do our best
We value:
  • Everyone as an individual respecting their cultural diversity
  • The home/school partnership
  • Respect, trust and honesty
  • A broad and balanced curriculum
  • Efforts and achievements

CURRICULUM

We want our children to achieve the highest possible academic standard. As with all maintained schools, the National Curriculum guides our school curriculum.

We want our children to build up a good command of English in both spoken and written forms. We want them to be able to understand and use number and other forms of Mathematics. So English and Mathematics are taught both as separate integral subjects, but when possible are integrated into our Units of Study. These Units of Study have been designed in line with guidance given by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. Details can be found HERE

Each child at The Erme Primary has the opportunity to take part in PE, sports, and games activities, and will receive a programme of Health Education, that will incorporate appropriate Sex and Drug Education. The Governors and Staff have agreed a policy on Sex and Drug Education in consultation with parents. Issues concerning reproduction and personal relationships arise directly during Year 5. We advise parents when the course is about to begin. You should direct any questions concerning the programme to Mrs Kate Eames.

Children are encouraged to develop skills in Music, Dance, Drama, Arts and Crafts and they will explore the wonders of Design Technology. We stress the importance of Information and Communications Technology, which will enable children to be equipped with appropriate skills.

We provide a full programme of Religious Education based on the Devon Local Education Authority Guidelines, which seeks to contribute to the pupil’s development of their own beliefs and values and to bring them to a knowledge and understanding of religion.
