WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

We are a small village school of approximately 120 children, situated on the edge of North Devon . We have a wide catchment area, taking in at least nine villages and hamlets.

We are fortunate to have large school grounds which we are currently developing with a cultivated garden area, a wildlife area with a large enclosed pond and two football pitches. We are hoping to include an amphitheatre, due for completion in the summer holidays.

We are developing close links with our Pre-school. The children are working alongside our Foundation Stage children for at least one session per week, on creative activities or Forest School opportunities.

AIMS

  • To make education an enjoyable, exciting and worthwhile experience
  • To offer an inclusive curriculum that discovers and maximises the potential of every student.
  • Through a range of cross-curricular and extended experiences to encourage commitment to the personal, social and intellectual development of the whole child through the use of differentiated educational provision in the classroom.
  • To encourage children to take responsibility for their own learning, to evaluate the quality and success of their work and to apply that learning wherever possible to new situations

ADMISSIONS OVERVIEW

Parents contemplating sending their children to this school are invited to visit the school beforehand to meet the Headteacher and their child’s prospective Class Teacher. An Preference form has to be completed before the child start school and a data collection form will need to be completed on entrance. It is a great help to future planning if new admissions can be registered at least one year and preferably two years before the child is due to start school. The statutory age for children to start school is 5 years. That means a child would start at the beginning of the term after his fifth birthday. However, at the present time, we are able to take children at least a term earlier than this. Children born from 1st September to 28/29 February (inclusive) may start school full time in September, whilst those born from 1 March to 31st August (inclusive) may start in the January before their fifth birthday.
